thank you! do you know the name of the local colleges? i'm thinking it won't be such a bad transition because we're coming from korea. and the furthest we drive is like 20 minutes from where we live. plus we haven't done much due to the language barrier, so it will be nice to go somewhere we'll be able to explore. we'll just have to pace ourselves haha!
does the mwr do a lot of things there?

@Ballard. There are community colleges near by. My husband and I live on Schofield Barracks, but I'm local born and raised here. It worked out that he was stationed somewhere I knew and am really familiar with. I like living on base but at the same time my neighborhood is really quiet, I dont see anyone out. ONLY kids after school. So with that being said, it is totally a matter of preference. The places near Wheeler AFB (right across from Schofield Bks) to look for houses are Wahiawa, Mililani and Kunia. :) Good luck and I hope you enjoy your time here in Hawaii. Trust me, once you've seen everything it becomes a drag. That's coming from someone who's spent 25 yrs here.. lol.

@ Danielle and Faryn, It would be soo nice to link up with you guys once I do touch down. The ticket is actually for august 22nd and I can not wait to be there. It's also nice to know that you guys are willing to meet new people and are so openly kind. You make this a whole lot easier for me. Once I get in and settled I will be more than open to participate in some activities. I also am a mother. She (Nashylah) will be 2 aug. 16th. She is very friendly and I myself could also use some excercise after having that one!. lol @keanna you can also hit me up sometime so you will feel comfortable when you arrive. If you guys dont mind me asking your age, or atleast age rang because I am a very young mother and wife, I do not want to feel akward. :/. My direct email is Queen.l.dorsey@gmail.com.

Its really not that bad out here. It takes a little bit of getting used to but once you get settled in and start meeting new people thru your FRG group and hubby's work functions its really not so bad. I'm a Georgia girl transplant and have really grown to love it out here. I do miss my home alot dont get me wrong but the women in our FRG are amazing and I've made a few good friends. You just have to put yourself out there. I'm not the most outgoing person but I love to help so thats where I started. I volunteered my time to our FRG group and just continued on from there. My hubby is currently deployed right now. But were trucking along pretty good.

What do they have here? Pool? Gym? I love to go work out. Got addicted to it last year after Rob left for basic and have been wanting to get back into it since we moved here from GA. I've heard Ft. Carson was really nice. Rob was stationed there as a kid and really wants to go back. I've never been so i think it would be great fun. I was apart of a Moms group back home in GA and would love to start one here..or even just a group for all of us. Kids or not. That way we all would have someone to lean on. I know what it feels like to feel alone. It sucks! Well i guess pre-k is out the window and I'll be doing what your doing. GA had free pre-k and the kids go all day. Any who, I did friend request you on FB:) and i would love to get together. Cole needs someone to play with and I need more friends. You would probably like Jenny, her SIL Tiffany and my other friend Tristine (she will be here at the end of May). Were all going to need eachother when they deploy.

Hmr isn't big at all. Korea was ok I wouldnt mind going back. Shopping and the pay there was really nice. I think next station we want to go to Carson. As of right now I'm staying here too. My husband wants me to go home so he doesnt have to worry about me being alone here but I dont want to pay all the money to go home, I'd rather stay here. Plus my daughter will be in school I dont wanna switch in the middle of the year. The only prek program they have here is 12:00-2:00 cost 40.00 a month and is only 2 days a week but u have to go with the kids and stay the whole time. I just home school my daughter for prek getting her ready and knowing what she needs to know. letters numbers she knows how to add and subtract small numbers. I love being a SAHM I wouldnt have it any other way. I do like to walk but havent done much of it. I'm so unheathly right now I'm gonna start walking tho. I have been on medication for the last 6 months that have made me so sick I didnt do anything except eat and sleep, but I'm not on them anymore so hopefully I can get more active. My husband said he doesnt know the name but might have seen him around. U can add me on Facebook (Kimberly Northern) and maybe we can all get together sometime

oh awesome! I know its a big company but maybe they know eachother. HMMMMMM im not sure where that road is. Is HMR really big? How was korea? I'm hoping we can get stationed closer to GA our next go round. I know the guys are being deployed in Jan or Feb. I'll be staying here except for a visit home to see family. Do they do prek here? Cole is supposed to start next fall. I've never been able to do the SAHM thing so im kinda excited. do you like to walk?

I think my husband is B. Co. 209 too. We live on the back of HMR on Apuka. We're from Arkansas so we are a long way from home too. But this is our second station. We were in Korea for a year and half before this. I'll have to ask my husband if he knows urs. I've been a stay at home since my daughter was born and she is 5 now. She starts school in Aug. so if we dont get preggo by then I might try to find a job. I havent worked in so long tho. I love being a SAHM

It is nice. My husband was a help bc he knows both husbands. My hubby works at Bravo Co 209 ASB. Our last name is Robenolt. Where do you live on HMR? We live off of Pahale Ct. I'm tired of being stuck at home. I've always worked and now I'm going to try my hand at being a stay at home mom. Our little boy cole is 3. This is our first duty station. We moved all the way from Georgia.

Hi all! I'm new to this community but have learned alot from the posts! My husband just finished AIT and received his orders to move to Wheeler.... This is all very very new to me and have no idea what is going on! He is to report on December 1st and I am working on the temporary housing at a hotel. We have 3 daughters(5yrs,2 1/2yrs,1 1/2yr)... and I would really like to get to know some people while we are out there!

Aw, Kendra! If you didn't live so far away, I'd say we should get together someday. I've been having a lot of medical issues, so the farthest I drive by myself is to Schofield, which is about 15 minutes away. Sorry you're not enjoying it out here! It really can be nice. And yes, you probably are missing family. How long have you been out here? I know when I came here the first time, I hated it but I was going through a lot of depression and stuff.

Well, we lived on Wheeler and my daughter went to school at Wheeler Elementary. I thought that the school was great. The teachers there were wonderful and the cafeteria food was the best school food I have ever seen. It's like a buffet for kids. lol The school that they are at now serves food that looks terrible.
We lived in the townhouses across military helicopter displays and those houses were very spacious. I loved the fact that we were away from the main base. It is a lot quieter and it's more like living off base. The new houses on Schofield are nice but they built them too fast and had a lot of problems with them when we left. We had a big rain and a lot of the home flooded because they didn't build them correctly. Then the wall started to get mold on them because they did not take care of the problems quick enough. The communities are clustered together so you feel like you have no space.
I was not a beach person but I became one after I moved there. The Vans Triple Crown Surf competition should be starting this weekend Nov 12th. It starts with the Reef competition in Haliewa, towards the end of the month till the begging of Dec. it's the O'Neill World Cup at Sunset Beach, then it's the Billabong Pipeline Masters at Pipeline. It's all free but you do have a lot of traffic at this time.
If you like breakfast then you have to try Boots & Kimo's in Kailua. The Banana Macadamia Nut Pancakes are the best!!! *Drooling as I speak.* lol There is a wait, service isn't like going to a regular restaurant. It's a quick order in and out kinda place. *Cash Only*

@ Lisa. Our stuff came from Arkansas and I shipped our stuff about 5 weeks before we got to the island and it was here about 4 days after we got here. Its something ur hubby will have to set up tho.

@ Christina u guys had to pay for the move out here? Thats crazy! Was ur hubby command sponsered? The military should have paid for it!

Lisa, they didn't pick our stuff up until AFTER we left (about a month after) and it didn't get there for an additional 31 days from when it was shipped- that was all the way from SC. But we had someone there with our stuff- my in-laws. We didn't have COLA or anything, so my husband had to pay out of pocket to get us to the island.

Kimberly, you don't live far from me! Malio (the road I live on) is right off of Eena. When I go around to get my mail, I pass Apuka and go all the way around to the other side of Malio (when I'm driving). I did google maps and it would literally take me 3 minutes to walk to your street from my house. Let me know if you want to meet up sometime! I know Shan would love to meet you, too. Hi Kimberly.. we don't live on HMR we live off post at Kunia in Waipahu. It takes us about 20-25 mins to drive to Christina's house though so it isn't too far. I just got out here a month ago as hubby just got back from deployment and I know what you mean about wanting to meet new people. We just got here and his unit is just coming back from deployment so most of the people he has meet are single and I know most single people dont like hanging with married couples who have kids lol
