Thank you for the scoop on Korea Anna! it was a bit discouraging lol but it sounds like an adventure! My husband is stationed at camp carroll right now so i imagine we will be staying somewhere in that area.
My husband just told me about the tension over there so were kind of debating about if our son and i should still go. We waiting right now for command sponsorship basically were hoping we get it but its not looking good. From what ive asked other people they said it can be like 2 months to 6 months before you get approved if they approve you. If we do get to go we will be near camp carroll i assume since that is where he is stationed right now. But im so new to this i really am not sure about anything im going the base by my house tomorrow to take in my paper work for DEERS but we still have to wait for our sons paperwork to go through too so were hoping by august but im thinking that wont be the case. I think our command sponsorship may get denied too because of the whole thing going on over there but were going to try anyway and hope that things calm down over there, if its too dangerous we wont go. But i really miss him and want to soooo bad lol. Have either of you lived on base what is that like? And Anna was it expensive to live off base in Korea i tried looking apartments up online over there but could find nothing.

Where are you guys going?? My hubby just got orders to Camp Carroll. We thought with the rising tensions over there our command sponsorship would get denied! Was it an easy process? He was going to pick up the family travel packet this weekend, but we talked tonight and figured it would get denied.

Hi jade!

my husband and I just left korea in April. here was there for almost 3 years and i was there for almost 2. Korea is a VERY different country and it took me a while to get used to it. I dont know where your husband is stationed but we were at camp casey, which is the furthest north. Where we were wasnt the best place. its a very poor area. its very dirty and smelly. There are a few things that are kinda strange that they do. For one, you cant throw your toilet paper in the toilet, you have to throw it in the trash can (pretty gross i know, but my husband and i found out the hard way when our entire bathroom flooded out into the living room and out the front door). you have to throw your food waste into a seperate bag. you pretty much have to seperate all your trash. The summer is EXTREMELY hot and humid. they have monsoon season, which sucks. they have this stuff called yellow dust. when its at a high level its best to stay inside because it can cause a lot of respiratory problems. The winters are VERY cold. our pipes froze all the time so we had to keep the water running a little bit all night. they dont use dryers so you have to hang everything.

If you are stationed in Seoul, or whenever u get the chance to go there it is absolutely beauitful. Tons of shopping, site seeing, and if you and ur hubby get a night out alone the night life there is awesome. I personally didnt enjoy being in korea. i wish my husband and myself would have taken more time to go and see other things. If you make the best of it you will enjoy it. and Korean food is absolutely amazing.
