What pay will hubby get while in Kunsan AFB Korea besides basic and BAH? Someone said they lose their BAS? Do we get COLA, seperation or hazard pay?

Hubby is wanting me to set up a budget for the time he is in Korea (Kunsan) but in order to do that I need to know what all pay we're gonna be getting but when I try to find out I can't find anything out about it that is straight forward. I find one site claiming we get hazzard cola and seperation pay then another saying we don't get any of it then another that says we only get cola! Hubby doesn't remember to tell me anything! In fact I had to find out from some one from his shop that he got orders to Korea and I had been under the impression that it wasn't even on his list since the last time we discussed it he said he took it off. Anyone ever been in the 1 yr unaccompanied tour to Kunsan AFB and if so what pay did you get? Or does anyone know this information or where to find it? This is his first time to be gone. Thanks! Hope you all had a great Easter!

Nichole-thats awesome that he is coming home so soon :) my oldest will be in kindergarten next year so hopefully that will keep her busy with school activities too she had the hardest time last time he was gone he went to iraq for four months when she was three shes going to understand more this time so im thinking that having the calender will help her alot also im making little paper chains that we are going to remove a link from everyday to make the time go by quickly i was going to do one for every month. my middle child is four i don't think she completely understood the last time he was gone but i'm thinking this time will be harder on her because she is alittle older and she is close to her dad and the baby is two so i'm not sure how he will react. they are all really close to him so it's going to be a roller coaster ride we have skype too so we will be useing it and the cell phone does sound like a good idea i will definently talk to him about it

Bridget- He comes home in June!! So I am almost done :) Keeping them busy does help. my 5 year old was in pre-k this last year plus I signed him up for soccer. My 2 year old is a little bit more distant from everything b/c he doesn't quite understand. My husband was gone for his 1st bday (in Iraq) and his 2nd (korea) so he mostly knows me. But I made a calendar for them so they can see when their dad is coming home and it helps a lot. We Skype a lot and my husband got a cell phone for 50 bucks a month and he gets 300 minute to the United States every month plus minute over there. That is nice so we can talk in case I am not home!

Nichole-when does he come home? mine is talking about taking his break at six months too so that should make it easier and we are going to keep busy i'm signing up my girls for dance and my little man for some gymnastics maybe. i was thinking about having them do soccer too but i don't know if that would be to much for them i'm just alittle nervous with how it will affect them since they are really close to him.

bridget- thats good you guys have some time together before he heads off. I agree with you about the medical stuff....you def would not have everything you might need over there. The year has gone by faster than I thought it would and having a month break in the middle helped a lot!!

Nichole-he leaves November 28th so we have a while to enjoy him before he goes he is taking some leave a couple of times before he goes so he can spend time with me and the kids and me and him are taking a trip to charelston (we are stationed at shaw afb in sumter sc ) it is going to suck that we can't go but with my health issues and the kids i would rather know that we have them available here then go there and not have them there plus when he gets back we get to PCS and we have been here for five years so its a plus

bridget- I'm sorry you guys couldn't go with him!! I don't see why you wouldn't get family sep since you are only not going b/c of medical reasons. some of the rules are a little crazy. When does your husband leave?

Nichole-my husband is air force too hes going to Osan though. Amanda-yea it is a blessing that Korea does have good internet connection and we will keep in contact as much as we can that will really help the kids since they have never been away from their dad for this long. i agree with you too that it is good we are staying here so we can have all of our medical needs covered.

my hubby is AF and is finishing up the last of his year tour at Kunsan. And we have gotten Family Sep, a small amount of hazardous duty and cola since he has been there. because kunsan is the unaccompanied base you will get family separation. but there are military sites you can look at that will explain what pay he will get. Or you can just call finance and they should be able to tell you.

It is frustrating I'm sure. My husband leaves in a few days for a year long tour to an uncommpanied remote location in the middle east. Just remember you are better off remaining somewhere that has medical facilities for your needs. At least in Korea, I hear they have decent internet access, so you should be able to chat with your husband via emails, skype, and whatever else :)

thanks for the info :) it's been kinda tough on us knowing that we could go if we didn't have medical issues its kinda frustrating but we'll make it though

My husband said If the military medically determines you can't go, then you may be entilted to the family seperation. That's one of those situtation's I don't really understand, since all our deployments have been unaccompanied by the military's choice.

Amanda- we would be going with him to Korea but we can't because me and the kids both have medical problems and i was told because of that we can't go. that rally sucks that we can't even get family seperation though i undestand why we wouldn't get the harzard pay but i am still serperated from my husband and its not like we asked to not be able to go

I currently have a friend who is stationed in Osan, Korea. That base does NOT receive any extra war type pay. It's not part of the hazard zone, nor do they recieve family seperation pay because that tour can technically be accompanied. It is not considered a war zone, so you don't get your money tax free either. He is receiving some sort of incentive pay, I think they come out about $300 ahead a month. Like the others said though, I think some of it depends on the base. Your finance office should have that information of what pays you are entitled to.

I believe that haz pay has more to do with the post they go to, not sure if all are. I would go to http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/f... and check and see if your camp does pay hazard pay also
