Hey, we recently just got orders to Whidbey Island, WA. This will be our 2nd duty station. We're originally from PA but are in CA right now. Anyhow, we'll be there on the 1st for 2 yrs and I just wanted some insight as to what life is like there. Anyone have any suggestions..things to do, places to eat, etc. My husband will be deploying with a week or two after we arrive and I have a 1 year old.

I sent you a msg with the address! Thanks so much, that's so nice of you...bc I am going stir crazy over here!! Haha. What park did you live in here in Lemoore? We live in Coral Sea. And yeah, my husband goes to VAQ-131 so he'll be deploying with the Lincoln. That's the one that just went out and nobody knows if they are coming back after 4 wks and postponing deployment til Sept/Oct. ..or if they won't be back..they were told to pack like it was deployment from what I've heard. LOL, so weird. But yeah it's supposed to be a 9 month deployment instead of 6, something bout bc they were the last to go out. I have NO idea since we're the last to know..lol, at least til he attaches to his new command. But either way, his command sponser for the new command said they'll fly him out to the boat since the deployment will have just started. :(

That's too funny that you guys are in Lemoore too. We actually live in Victory Park here in Oak Harbor on Goldfinch St. The housing around here is very odd meaning that there is so many different kinds of housing here. In Lemoore, I think they had the stucco houses, the houses that had the siding, and then some old housing still in the back but here they have so many different types of houses. Our house is on Goldfinch and we live up high on a hill. The garage is in the back of the house and there is an alley behind the house that leads to the garage. However, there are only a few streets of houses like this. A few streets back behind us, there are single family homes with driveways and 2 car garages that don't have alleys. I would be more than happy to take a picture of your house for you but I realize you don't know me and you might feel uncomfortable giving me your address. Even if you gave me the road name your house was on, I could probably get you a picture that would be a good representative of what your house would look like. If you want to give me your address and don't want to post it on here you can email it to me at karin_rockey@comcast.net. My husband is in VAQ-135 and since they just got back from deployment, I am assuming your husband is not going there. Anyway, guess that's all for now. Don't hesitate to ask me any more questions, it is really nice to talk to someone!

Hi,
We are currently stationed here in Whidbey Island and we have been here for about 6 weeks. We just came from Lemoore, CA. The weather here is very different from CA. It rarely gets over 70 in the summer and I am not quite sure about the winters since we haven't been here for that yet. There seems to be a lot to do (at least compared to Lemoore). There is lots of parks and recreation areas that is good for a 1-year-old (we have a 19-month old). They have a bounce arena (kind of like a Bounce-U), 2 great parks and lots of small parks around the housing area. There isn't a lot of brand name places to eat around here but there is an Applebees. A lot of the restaraunts around here are kind of like mom-n-pop restaurants. There is an assortment of greek, mexican as well as many fast food restaraunts. There is many harborside shops and a Wal-Mart but no Target. The closest major shopping is in Burlington which is about 30 minutes away and they have an outlet mall, more dining options as well as a Target, etc. To get onto the island, you have to drive over Deception Pass Bridge which is pretty cool-you can probably google pictures. Overall, it is kind of a tourist town and can get busy during the summer season. The weather is much chillier than what I am used to but we are adjusting. Oh, all the housing is off base. There is actually 2 bases-the Seaplane Base and the Ault Field Base. The Seaplane Base has the commissary, the Exchange, gas stations, and furniture store. The other base has all the operations. Feel free to look us up when you get here! Hope this helps!
