I have ha 4 children all over 9 pounds last one being 12. Three C-sections. You can literally put your hand in between the muscle in my stomach and it looks like a war zone. Will tricare pay and how do I go about getting them to pay for it. I live in the San Diego area, so I am near a big base.

They paid for my friends but only because she had gastric bypass and with the excess skin, it caused issues, so that made it medically necessary...but it's cosmetic, so unless they prove you need it due to illness etc...no...

My SIL's OB/GYN said that after he next pregnancy he would do one as part of her C-section because she got septic after her last one and has a three inch wide scar as a result of the infection in the incision.

i've heard both, will and wont, sometimes it's a quality of life issue and sometimes it's viewed as "diet and exercise" thing. I would look into it regardless, the worst they can tell you is "no"

My friend just got hers approved through tricare. She did not have to claim depression or anything like that like others posted. She too has had multiple c-sections as well as an appendectomy scar. She was referred to a plastic surgeon who just had to put his recommendations in to tricare that it was NOT for cosmetic reasons.

yes they will. they will do 1 surgery in your lifetime. The trick is, you have to tell the Dr. that it drepresses you, you have a low self esteme beacuse of your stomach etc. I have a friend who had wheight loss surgery and lost 100 pounds. She got a tummy tuck. However I have a friend who lost 80 pounds by diet and exercise and they turned her down. Do your research before going to your Dr.

WIth the way your muscle is, you should be able to get one. If you're doctor won't refer you, go do a free consult with a plastic surgeon and get the paperwork from them saying it's medically necessary. Then take it to your doctor and have them send it to TriCare.

yes, they can pay for a tummy tuck. you have to go through your doctor to get refered to a specialist then they have to see if you qualify for it. I knew some friends that had it done (army) and my sister (air force)

No, they will not pay for it. I had a friend who paid for a tummy tuck at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. It was only $1500- vs. the $5000-8000 price tag at a civilian plastic surgeon. But, IMO you get what you pay for. I would call the surgery dept at your naval hospital and ask if they offer elective surgical proceedures. Good luck!
