My husband has been in afghanistan for 2 1/2 months now and im 30 weeks pregnant with our son. My daughter just doesn't listen to me anymore! she will talk back and when i dont give in to something she hits or kicks me! she is only four, but ive tried spanking her, timeout, and even talking calmly! she said she does this bc her heart is broken bc her daddy is gone! how can i fix this?

Unfortunately, the behavior will continue....part of it is that is just what preschoolers do when they don't get their way. I would suggest having her make her own book (you can used a photo album) that and she puts pictures in it of things that make her heart happy. I noticed you posted this a while ago. Let me know if you've gotten help. I have some other ideas. I'm a children's therapist and work with military children.

i would do that but i moved back home, so base is 14 hrs away! however i am looking into some kind of counselor for her to talk to! i hope they can get her to talk about her feelings instead of bottling them up and getting sooo upset! thanks for the advice though =)

My husband has been Iraq for about 4 weeks now. I am going through the same thing with my 4 year old daughter. She is throwing tantrums and talking back to me and even to her grandmothers. She has never acted like this before. The only suggestion I have is to go to family readiness on base and talk to someone about it. This is what I am going to try.
