I've had my 5 year Mirena IUD in for 6 years now, I'm nervous of what might happen, but please answer my questions to put my mind at ease?

About 6 months ago I did go to Planned Parenthood to have it removed for a low price. Well that experience was horrible for me. The doctor couldn't find the string, she kept "pinching my cervical wall" and I felt tortured with the pain. She pulled and pinched my cervical wall about 10 times thinking it was the IUD! Finally I said I couldn't take it anymore, she said yeah you might want to get an ultrasound because I cannot find it. I've been so stressed because I don't know what happens if it is embedded in my uterin wall, do I have to have a hysterectomy (I'm a hypochondriac). I'm scared and the thing is, I'm not in discomfort by it or anything, but would I even have symptoms if it was lodged? I am going to a sliding scale fee doctor next week, should I even tell them about the previous doctor I went to who couldn't find it, or wait to see what they say 1st? I know for a fact that the doctor who put it in said she cut the string really short so my husband shouldn't feel it at all. Please help me with some answers :(

A friend of mine had the issue of the Mirena implanting. She was nauseous. She also had a lot of back and stomach pain to the point where she went to the emergency room. After they removed it, they put her on antibiotics and she was soon to her old self again.

I had an almost identical situation when it came to removal! It was horrible, so I empathize with you. My regular doctor could not find it when feeling around because of short strings, so I had to go to a gyno who was HORRIBLE...it literally felt like he was digging around. I am surprised with the pinching that you felt though. I just had nasty cramps and other pain. In my case, my uterus is tipped the wrong direction so the iud was harder to find. I hope that you told your next doctor, if for no reason that they could be more gentle and caring with you the second time. Good luck!

margaret sorry to hear about the bad experience.short string or not she should've been able to find it.Please please inform the 'new' doctor of what happened so it wont be repeated.now,i believe if mirena implants you will feel some discomfort, and possibly some bleeding.not positive though.if you're still that concerned & can afford it ask for a ultrasound to locate it,to avoid any unnecessary digging.

wishing you luck the 2nd time
