Just wondering if anyone has ever worked out in the community as a nurse doing home visits?

I am about to start a brand new full time community nurse job working with VON (victorian order of nurses) I am heading up the palliative team, giving home visit support (drsg changes, meds, pronouncing death, PPSM etc..) Benefits are I can make my own hours (around the girls school/dance schedules) straight days and only 1out of 4 weekends!! Rate of pay isn't the same as the hospital but I am getting full benefits and paid vacation weeks. The benefits is huge for us, because we were paying privately $300 a month.

I was a community nurse when I first graduated but only for about 6 months before I went into hospital nursing. Just looking for some tips..........

Thanks Deb!

I am enjoying the job, and finding lots of tricks to make things go smoothly. What a big difference from hospital. My dr's are right at my finger tips, and we have a great support team. My car has turned into a mobile medical supply machine. Loving having so many weekends off with my family, and most days I start after the girls are at school and home to pick them up off the bus. Only downfall is the paperwork that needs to be done nightly.....
