Do more non traditional exercises like going dancing, riding a bike, going on a hike, roller blading, play tag with your children. Do something active at least 3 to 5 days a week. Make a way of life, just something that you do, like going to work, feeding the kids, cleaning the house. Make life a fun active experience.

Natalie I was holding my breath waiting to hear from you. Now I can breath a sound of relief:) I am so happy that you had a great experience working out with your beautiful Daughter at the stroller stides. It sounds like you also hit the jack box with the door prizes! I hope that this will be the beginning of many more wonderful experiences of working out. I'm rooting for you:)

OK - so I just got home from my stroller strides workout! IT WAS FANTASTIC!!! I really enjoyed it. Every exercise you did incorportated your baby/child! We would sing different songs to the kids as we did different exercises and that is how we kept time. We would play little games with them as we walked/ran. I would definately recommend it to anyone out there wanting to get back into working out! I was the only one that showed up to the Grand Opening so I won all the door prizes - that was an added bonus! Thanks for the tip and the motivation to get out there and do something! I am already feeling the workout! I feel very accomplished today already!

Natalie I can't wait to here all about it. I hope this is something that you will enjoy as well. I'm happy that you found something on the site that caught your eye, and that's pretty exciting that you were able to find a stroller strides group so close to you. That is just too cool!

OK - So I am a new mom and at this point do not enjoy working out. My husband is a Exercise Sport Science Major and a football/baseball coach so he is totally into exercise will cure any problem you have! So I joined this group just to see what other people were doing and to maybe get motivated. I was reading the posts on this page and saw something about stroller strides so I googled it! What do you know - they are having a grand opening tomorrow at the one closest to me!!! I e-mailed the lady about it and I will be attending the first one tomorrow. I am not a shy person, but I don't really put myself in situations where I don't know anybody cause I feel like a lot of the times I am read the wrong way. But since it is the grand opening tomorrow I am figuring not everybody will have done something like this before and not everybody will know each other. So I am going! I will post again tomorrow to let you know how it goes! Thanks for the tips and motivation! Hopefully this is something I will enjoy and make a part of my weekly routine. It is 3 days a week at 9:00 in the morning so that will be a huge change from getting up at 10:30, but I am sure it is well worth it! I will let you know!

Jannah and Katie that is just to cool how you incorporate your children in your workout, and yes running after our children is a true workout in itself. Not only do you spend time with your children and have fun, but you also teach your children at a early age that working out can be fun. In this day an age where a lot of our children are obese and inactive it makes you aware of how early one needs to instill healthy habits. Katie is someone is interested in joining a stroller group who should they contact?

Jannah thats what I'm talking about, its nothing like making your workout a family affair not only are you getting your exercise in and spending time and fun with your son, but you're also teaching him that exercise can be fun especially in this day where so many of our children are obese and inactive.
Katie love your suggestion on stroller strides, is this a Mall program for moms or is this a community organization? just need to know how to join if others are interested.

One thing that I try to incorporate is making it a part of my son's daily outing or his activity as well! I feel more inclined to excercise when I know that my son loves going for walks or enjoys being pushed around everywhere on his tricycle and there is no better way to get your heart rate up than chasing a two year old around a park!!

I agree with both of your post Tanya and Maria. I'm also motivated by the fact that I get a rush of energy every time I finish a workout, and I want it and I need to have that energy to run around after my children. I really do enjoy my workouts even now being 42 and I'm more aware of the health benefits more than ever, i rather be proactive in that area of my life.

Make it part of your health, rather than part of your appearance. One of my motivations for working out is that I don't get colds and flus as much. Obviously, there are going to be positive long term health effects from working out but it's the short term ones that motivate me on a day to day basis.
