No offense..but I think your doctor is nuts. I'm an RN and fitness fanatic and trust me 800 calories it too low. Especially with your activity level. As far as at home workouts, you could try exercise DVD's or you could invest in some equipment such as an eliptical, bike, treadmill, etc. if you have the room. Hand weights don't take up much room either and are essential to have.

In my opinion 800 calories are way too few for any adult woman to live on for a day. I eat 1600 calories per day and exercise for 1 hour and 15 minutes every day and still lose weight. In my opinion, your doctor is wrong. 800 calories are too few.

Hi Catherine, I agree with more than 800 calories a day. When you're depriving your body of calories, it slows everything down...you want to do the reverse. A couple of useful tips; keep your meals between 400-600 calories...the body can't do a whole lot but store more than 600 calories in one sitting. Muscle weighs more than fat so go ahead with some weights. There's lots on line for help with workout routines and great DVD's. Personally, I love Zumba. I teach it now...Google it and check it out. Lots of fun. Don't forget to have water every day...take your weight and divide that number in half....those are the ounces of water you should target drinking everyday. It keeps the bowels moving, it keeps you hydrated and it's great for your skin. I'm happy to assist in any way I can. I'm available to chat some more if you like...just send me a message. Last note...be kind to yourself...you're beautiful and you WILL reach your goals!

Hi Catherine, I know we all want to lose the extra pounds as fast as we can but give yourself a break. It takes time to lose it. This is probably not the kind of advice you're looking for but eat well, exercise properly and don't beat yourself up about losing all your weight ASAP. Enjoy the baby and if the weight is even coming off slowly know you're going in the right direction!
Good luck!

Hi Catherine,
I had 2 high risk pregnancies and gained alost 70 lbs with my last child. I tried for 3 years to lose the last 25 lbs with frustrating results. I went to a 1200 calorie diet using lien cuisine and daily excercise and lost 15 of it but it took about 6 months. Then I tried Nutrisystem's plan. The last 10 lbs I lost in a month & a half! I would really recommend it. On my own low-cal diet, I found I was hungry many times throughout the day. But with Nutrisystems snacks & by adding fruits & veggies, it was almost too much food!
I've kept it off for 2 years now by a daily intake of 1200-1300 calories & excercise. Because you can buy individual items online from Nutrisystem, I still use it for a few days at a time to get rid of that 4 or 5 lbs after the holidays :)

Good luck!

Firsty, I agree with Kim, 800 cals is crazy low. U need to be eating small portions often (5/6 meals a day) to help boost your metabolism. Never give up with crunches! Muscle burns more calories than fat so the more muscle you build, the more calories your body is burning when your doing nothing! Yay! The important thing is to make sure that you are doing your core excerises CORRECTLY. You don't want to waste your valuable time with improper form, it gets you nowhere but demotivation-ville, lol.

I'm home with my 5 month old thru the days and stability balls are an inexpensive and effective way to work out at home. If you can incorporate hand weights too there's no stopping you! Women can get a great workout using just body resistence (i do some pilates move with my baby, he loves it!). I'd be happy to send you some excersize ideas! Good Luck!

Hi Catherine

Try to eat food that has a low glycemic index, this means that your body will take longer to digest it thus less likely to turn it into fat. The other thing I did after I had my second bub was used a new fat loss product called osolean, it helps you burn fat and increase you lean muscle to fat ratio. I work on our farm so I get heaps of exercise, with my first bub te wieght just fell off, but second time around my belly just didnt want to go away. Using the osolean I was getting rid of it just to find I was pregnant with our third...oh well maybe after this one I will get back into my "normal" jeans!

I am in the same position as you I weigh 177 5'7 and trying to get back to 145! I gained a lot .. 55lbs. I am breastfeeding so that helps an extra 500 kcals a day and I work out but the pounds just seem to stay on. As for 800 kcal that is REALLY REALLY low, I am surprised you haven't passed out from exhaustion. Your doctor is a little nuts for that. But my major in college was Exercise Science (so I should really know how to do better) and running is one of the best ways to get the excess off.

see the only reason i went to 800 calories is cause my doctor told me if i really was serious bout losing weight i would need to cut it down to 800 calories a day. I need stuff i can do to work out at home cause i stay home all day and my hubby doesnt get home till around 8 every night and i cant afford to go to the gym.

800 calories...OMG! That's way too low. Especially as active as you are. You should be consuming at least 1200 calories. With a diet that low in calories, you're just slowing your metabolism and it will be harder and harder to lose the weight. I would suggest varying your type of cardio workouts. Also, circuit training is an excellent calorie burner, alternating cardio with strength training.

Hi my advice would be to ditch the crunches at mo get on a running machine or cross trainer thatl lose the excess fat you should notice a difference within 6-8wks if you do it 2-3times a wk for about an hour aday, then once all that fat has gone go bak to doin crunches to tone up.I hope this helps you this is what i did and i am very happy with the results.
