I have alot of pain, like almost everyday now. I don't consider myself having a pain episode (crisis) until my pain level hits 9 or 10. The weather is the biggest culprit for me, probably because Michigan's weather can be a bit unpredictable. And it's more the rain & humidity than the cold. The second cause would probably be stress. I won't allow myself to become dehydrated, I try to avoid falling at ALL costs, & I avoid extreme heat & extreme cold (both natural & artificial). I do sometimes drink, but I've never had a pain episode from drinking, maybe bevause I don't get drunk, I don't know. I used to smoke, & believe it or not it used to actually make me feel better. But since it's so bad in the long run, I had to let it go. I'm trying to get a good exercise regimen going. At one time, I used to walk 1.5 mile a day with my dog, & I have to admit that my pain seemed to be better on some levels. But after I had to give up my dog, I stopped walking. Infection DEFINITELY causes pain for me, & that's the ONLY time I will go to the hospital because I know it's life or death.
