I just moved from Pittsburgh to a small town. We are on welfare, and I noticed something, The Pittsburgh workers never returned a phone call, never made an appointment with me based on what _I_ could do, or tried in any other way to go that one step further, but the small town workers have gone out of their way more than once to help me, like calling me unsolicited to tell me what was happening with my case. It's WONDERFUL!! Go Small Towns!!!!

i've had my share with child welfare.. i've had my kids tookn becuase of thier fathers abuse to me n his drug use. at the end of it all my worker said 'YOUR CHILDREN SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM YOU. DO NOT LOOK AT THIS LIKE OH PEOPLE WILL THINK BAD OF ME CUASE I LOST MY KIDS. THINK OF IT AS YOU PROVED YOU ARE A BETTER PARENT THAN THEM WHO JUDGE YOU CUASE YOUVE DONE MORE FOR YOUR CHILDREN THEN THEY HAVE '. Nice they took them for nothing of my fualt. at first i was a b*tch to them. then i calmed down and things worked out. there so hard to deal with there rude n judgemental. if you have any questions i can help. trust me been threw it all. including getting on welfare. its the pits!!!

I was just approved for welfare today and they cut me a cheque for two hundred dolla, woot woot. Once my baby's daddy starts paying child support, however, I'll be making more than "the limit." BUT, once my parental leave is up, I'll have another two years before I have to look for a job- bonus! They will give me moneys again. But it doesn't seem like it's income assistance you are asking about...

If you are talking about social services, I have a friend who lost custody of her son last year. She went and tried to kill herself because her girlfriend was trying to leave, but hey, she's so afraid that she'll try the same thing again, they are still together now, and guess what? She's pregnant again. She sees a social worker on a weekly basis, and has her son over one or two days a week I think.

I haven't really had problems with DHS(department of human services) but they can be very rude, and they tend to not return my phone calls......and that makes me very angry....they obviously know what they are going to have to deal with when they get that kind of a job, so why would you be rude, and isn't it there job to return your phone call........it just makes me mad that i have to call there 3-4times before i get to talk to the right person, or it takes that long for them to answer there phone.......only one person at the DHS in my city has ever returned my calls.......i guess there was my venting for today.......i know that not all places are like that, but some can be......
