How can I make my 19 month old son sleep through the whole night? Since he was 6 months my son has not been sleeping through the night, he wakes up about at lease 4 or 5 times or just gets up once and is screaming. I try to confort him and giving him another warm milk ande given him infant tylenol so he won't get a headache from all the crying and screaming and then he starts to through a tamtrum by kicking and trying to hit.I have checked his body to make sure nothing is hurting him. I have checked his tummy like his doc had showed me but nothing. I will leave him in his crib but then he starts to climb out. I try putting him our bed but he just tosses and turns and keeps crying. I have tried feeding him and giving him warm milk before I put him down, but nothing is helping..... I need help??? I'm at my deep ends...

Ok my suggestions you don't have to take any of them but I have three children here's my advice.

Since baby can climb out of the crib it's probably time to try a toddler bed it's lower to the ground and safer.

You cannot make anyone sleep all night unless you want to drug them to sleep which is not a good idea, but you can work on making him stay in bed. This process can take several days. Everytime he gets out of bed, pick him up put him back every time, no exceptions unless he's injured, puking, something like that. This may take hours on end.

Never let him sleep with you ever. Let him know this is his bed. This is where he sleeps. Even if he lays awake that's fine but he must stay in bed.

Don't give him tylenol unless he has a fever, too much use of tylenol can cause headaches, a serious health problems.

Even if he tantrums pick him up and place him in his bed. I use physical punishment (ie spanking) if my child hits I spank or slap the hand. Some people don't prefer this method but I find it effective. Controled physical punishment has shown to be positivley effective in children. All the children I know who have had this implemented are well behaved faster, and learn quickly not to hit, bit, kick, etc.

The screaming may be from nightmares, or it could be night terrors which is not the same a nightmares. I think you might consider a sleep study. It's possible he's having night terrors (a physical manifestation which is uncontrolable) it's possible he's so upset because he may be afraid or confused.

I would wait before going in, sometimes they have night mares and will fall right back to sleep. It sounds like you may be keeping him up by giving him milk and tylenol...etc. So wait 5-10 minutes then go in, don't turn on any lights in the room (a night light should work), whisper, and just rock him softly back to sleep, if he wakes up after you put him back in his crib, put your hand on his back/tummy until he starts to fall asleep again.
