I have a 14 month old who won't stop hitting his head. He hits it on EVERYTHING, the crib sides, the mattress, the floor. Does anybody know if this is normal? How in the world do I get him to stop? It worries me that he does this all the time and on hard objects.

my son doesn't quite do the same but around 13 months he started hitting himself on the head and saying bad. I am still not sure where he got this from because I never hit him and we don't use the word bad in or house. Anyway I just ignored him because I figured he was trying to get a reaction out of me-when I didn't give him one he stopped.

hi

my son used to hit head off of everything in the house, it was horrible watching him do it but i got told just to ignore him (no matter how hard it was for me) coz it was attention seeking, it was very difficult to ignore but i did it & it soon stopped

He mite be doing it because of your reaction to it. When he does it don't respond. And he may stop. If he likes your reaction to it then he will keep doing it.

I appreciate it. He usually does it when he's sleepy or after I put him into the crib for bed time or naps. That's when I've noticed it the most.

Hi,

I know it seems bad, and looks bad when you are watching it, but babies do hit themselves. Sometimes it is just cause they can, sometimes, they are upset and reacting. Watch him for other signs and symptoms of illness, cause ya never know. But, overall, I'd say, "Don't worry"

As he learns language, learns to express himself with words and gets his needs met, the head banging will stop.

I taught my daughter sign language, so by six months of age or so, she could ask for much of what she wanted. Hope this helps.
