Out of country travel for 1 year old with mom

So my son just turned 1 and I got the opportunity to travel to Germany to visit a friend.But since his father has a felony on his record he can't even leave the state.So two question..How do you prepare little one for the trip&& second How do you persuade the other parent to say it's okay??I think it'd be great for my son to see a different country that is different from our own.Plus It's part of who we are..I'm 1/2 german so i would love to see Germany with my child.

Well his father is mad that I take trips with him and he can't at the moment. the scary part is I've never been on a airplane.what helps with the pressure build up when they aren't on a bottle or nursing?

Why would the father object? I assume he would think this a great chance for his son to have an adventure.
I'd take the baby to the airport a few times, if you are close by. Give him a chance to see the plans and such.
Travel with snacks!! If he is on the bottle, or nursing still, make sure he can do that to help release the pressure that will build up in his little ears. That can hurt.
Travel with small toys to keep him entertained. I could be a long long trip, or he might travel well.
Be sure to take his comfort toys, special blanket or whatever.
Take a camera!!!
