It will be a very good idea to start him/her on mashed potatoes, rice and gravy, anything soft. You can also try chicken, cut into small pieces. Start slow, see what he/she likes and you will be able to convert well that way.

If he has a teeth i would go with whatever you are eating as long as it is not spicy. My son loves chicken off the bone. No i do not give him the bone, i peel it off. Frozen fruits that have been thawed out. My son also like mangos. By the way he is 11 months also and will be 1 year old in 9 days!! Good luck and much fun!!

I agree what ever you are eating but just make sure it is soft, and mashable. Noodles are good in small peices. You can do breads. it can be anything you eat just softer.

Rice cereal is the standard that most people start with. It has a low allergy rate. Some children don't like rice cereal (my son being one of them) and always spit it right back at you. You can try to flavor it with breastmilk, or even a little fruit of vegetable.

Otherwise start with veggies over fruit (fruit is so sweet you don't want your kids hooked on it before the savory veggies). Pick a veggie - preferably something in season so you can make it yourself. (check out your local library on how to make your own baby food!)

Just remember introduce one food at a time and give them 3-4 days before introducing the next new one - so you can tell if there will be an allergic reaction.

Have fun experimenting and with the stinky diapers (ohh they turn colors and smell so funky!)
