You have to be really firm with her, tell her that she does not get to play or turn on the t.v until the homework is done. Do NOT go back on this! Make sure she has a quiet place to do it, even if it means you have to stand guard at the door to keep the other kids out. I know it's hard to force your child to do something, but remind yourself that you are teaching her to prioritise- an important skill that she will need in life.

I don't ask, I tell her it's time to do it while I'm cooking dinner. That way I'm right there in the kitchen so I can help her with anything she needs. Education is hugely important in our family and she's known that since before she started kindergarten. When she knows it's expected of her, there's a LOT less arguing.

I give my son a good hour after scool to unwind and have a snack. Then we do homework. If he is still being cranky, then I will make him a deal that he can wait til after dinner but he has to get it done. No matter what-he has to do his homeowrk or there is no bedtime snack. That always works!

I offer a reward for my son to have after completing his homework. NO t.v., games, playing, etc. until homework is done.
