So, my son is turning 4 months old this Thursday, and his pediatrician told me not to start him on cereal or anything until he was atleast 4 months old, but I've been giving him a tiny pinch of cereal in his bottles for about 2 months now and he's been doing just fine. I've also come across gerber baby food for supported sitters, and we've started feeding that to him. He loves it and it gives him a full belly. I've tried and tried to get him to eat his cereal (without using the bottle), but he just doesn't like it, and we tried to get him to eat cereal before we ever introduced anything else to him (like the baby food). Any suggestions on how I can get him to eat the cereal? Also, we've started giving him juice (pear juice is his favorite), and we put 2 ounces of juice in the bottle and then add about 2 ounces of water to it. He takes it very well, but it really irritates me when other moms tell me that I shouldn't be doing all these things yet because "he's too young". He's doing great, he loves everything, he can eat from spoon like a champ, and so far he hasn't had any bad reactions from anything nor has he been constipated from it. So, I guess I'm asking, how do I deal with other moms telling me that what I'm doing for my own child is not what they think is best?

Hi Sara,

I can't wait til my lil one can start on juices, I know they normally say hold out til 6 months, but who really follows those guidelines. I have been giving her baby food, which she loves and putting cereal in her bottle since 2 1/2 months old. She hasnt had any problems with constipation or anything. When I first introduced her to the spoon, she also mastered it. It's almost like she was saying "Mommy what have you been waiting for". To help your lil one accept the cereal out of the bottle, you could mix a lil milk with it, or you can also try adding a lil baby food with it. Hope this helps. By the way, you know whats best for your child, so don't pay attention to what other Moms are saying. I have four children, and to be honest I introduced them all to food well before what everyone recommends and never had a problem. The only thing I waited for was water and juices, only because some babies tend to choke easy on them.
