My husband works in northern alberta as heavy equipment operator. I am back in Nova Scotia w/ a 2.5 year old and another due in December. Currently he's gone 6-8 weeks at a time, sometimes more...and home for 2 weeks at a time. It's tough!!

Hi! My hubby works for Altagas as a Lead Operator in their plant located in Pouce Coupe....we live in Dawson Creek, BC. He works 12 hour shifts for 7 days then he is off for 7 days....he is home everyday which I am so thankful for as I know a lot of men in the oilfield have to stay away from home :(
Any other moms here live in or around Dawson Creek? I'd love to meet some new friends :)

Hi, my husband is a surveyor usually in the Hinton area although we live in Cremona. We have a 16 month old daughter. He could get a call to leave anytime and we never know when he will be back. It's impossible to plan anything!
I have PPD and I'm lucky enough to be able to move in with my in-laws who live down the road while my husband is away. It can get pretty lonely when they are gone but I thankful that he has a job when so many don't.

My hubby doesnt work on the rigs, but he is a pipefitter at Shell Scotford outside of Fort Sask. We live in Edmonton and have a 7 1/2 mth old baby girl. He works 5 10's atm and gets to come home every night! Even though we only get to see him for about 2 hrs a night its better than when he was working 24 and 4's!

My husband is in the survey side of it and has worked ALL over Alberta. We have lived in Grande Prairie for the past 7 years, originaly born and raised in Fort Mac. Now with the economy the way it is, we are heading back to Fort Mac for him to work there. I believe that Oilfield jobs are some of THE hardest jobs for wives to cope with!! It takes strong women to deal with the jobs of these amazing men!!

My hubby works for Nabors based out of Sylvan Lake, we live in Calgary and have a 18 month old daughter. His schedule varies as you all know, but the longest now would be 24 on 5 off... Any other rig moms live in Calgary? If so, it'd be nice to get together and let the kiddies run around, drop me an email if interested at meluc@shaw.ca. Melissa

My husband worked the rigs for 4 years out of Hinton...we loved it there! I got used to him being gone for 3 weeks and home for 1 week until I had our son. We decided to move back to Sask to be closer to family and now he works for Weatherford. He's still working with the rigs...just not on them :)

Hi I'm Valerie. We live about an hour north of Edmonton. The husband is a Boilermaker working routine maintenance at Syncrude up in Ft Mac. He is supposed to work 4-10's but they are always changing their minds at the last minute so we never know for sure until he calls to say he is on the road. LOL We have 2 years old girl/boy twins.

My fiance isn't a rigger, he's a general foreman for PCL (pipefitter) he's been working in town for almost a year now but when he works in fort mac it's either 5 on 2 off ( which means he doesn't get home until 11pm on friday and leaves at 3pm on sunday) or 11 on 3 off.

Hi, we live in Cochrane, AB. Jason works for Trinidad Drilling. He works in Alberta and BC usually, however for the last year he has been working in Mexico, still for the same company. He is gone 28 days and home for 26 days. We have a 2 year old and a 3 month old. Even tho he is home for a long period of time, the 28 days are long! This is the most time he has ever spent at home at once, so it is an ajustment!! But just happy to be working!!!

my husband works for Trinidad Well Servicing (I believe it's part of the same company because we get these newsletters about Trinidad Drilling/Well servicing) in northern Alberta.  We are waiting for him to get back to work.  Fall breakup or more commonly known as mud :)

Hi everyone, My hubby works as an operator with a small company called 'Performance Wireline' out of Red Deer. Work has slowed and they have had wage cuts and laid off 3 guys. Right now he has no scheduled days off and takes time off when there are no jobs up. He's home fairly often and we are both relieved when a job comes up. We have an 11 year old daughter.

Hi there;

My husband is a Geologist and is currently out in Drayton Valley area doing work with Highpine (now Daylight) it will be a nice 2 week well, then home again for a few days and off to GP for close to 6 weeks. After Xmas he is off to work again with Conoco Phillips at Surmont. I'm 8.5 months pregnant, so that 6 week well my get cut short, but as long as he's home for a bit it's all good. We live in Edmonton.

we are in SW Saskatchewan ---huby works long hours --- and things are starting to look slow --- a company has bought out WAVE (around Shaunavon) and they are known to have another company do their hauling. That company is also looking at putting in flow lines instead of tanks by the wells.
