I currently live in Barrhead, Alberta, and am soon moving up to Fort Mac to be with my husband where he works. The kids and I are excited, but it would be nice to get to know some mums up there. We are from Nova Scotia originally. I'm 38, active, and love to talk and laugh! Having friends in Fort mac would be so nice!

I moved here a year ago and it has been a tough transistion(from Vancouver Island) My husband also works at Suncor.

Does suncor encourage families to move to fort mcmurray together? We're you given a stipen to pay rent?

My husband is currently an operator at an oil refinery in Indiana. He knows several operators working at suncor and is thinking about joining the crew there. We will move as a family. How are the schools? I have read that the cost of living makes it hard to survive, but is that true with housing accommodations? Can anyone tell me what to expect if we decide to make the move?

My hubby just started at Suncor. I am in Nanaimo, and he is commuting. We were planning on him commuting, but just the other day he seriously floated the idea of moving there. I am really not sure. We have a14 year old son and I have a career here. I also enjoy the climate and ocean here. How has the move worked out for you and your family so far?

Hi Lori,

I have moved many times with my husbands work and found getting involved at school and other groups is the best way to meet others - I have a lot of dear friends from all over the country that I have made thru moves. Good luck with your move. Who does your husband work for?

I'm in Okotoks AB, my dad and family are living in Ft Mac doing an apartment re-construction, and my husband is in and out of there sometimes. Hopefully you make new friends quickly!!!
