Well I am not sure of the details in his contract , but my husband has worked on various vessels as well as on land. Most of the vessels he has worked on have payphones. When he was landbased he activated his roaming on his mobile phone and either called from that or used his laptop with a 3G card and emailed from that. So from experience, no phone expenses have been deducted from his paycheck
