My husband said his best option is to go to the production side like him. He said when AIG asked for the bailout,  that Chesapeak went under and had to pull all their rigs. He said that if he goes to production he'll always have a job.

Tell him to check into Torqued Up--they are in the Kermitt area, my husband worked for them, they have offices all over Texas and in LA.  If you need anymore help don't hesitate in asking.  He said to tell him to go to production until drilling picks back up, he said it will pick back up eventually.

My husband doesn't work on a rig,  but, he's a supervisor for a company that runs test pumps here in East Texas, and they are still running hard out here as far as we can tell. We have a good friend who works for Patterson  UTI and he's running pretty good also. And another friend in Arkansas and he's also running good still.

My husband is working in East Tx and they are laying ppl off left and right on his rig. We are praying he doesn't get layed off too. We've heard he's safe and we've heard that he's not... It's a scary situation! But good luck and I hope it all works out for you and your family.

My husband's working in East Tx right now (around Nacagdoches) for Nabors Drilling.  I know that they had stacked some rigs around Christmas, but I think they may be picking back up again from what hubby's said.  He's currently working on one of those PACE rigs (if that means anything to you-I have limited understanding of rig terminology) but apparantly it's the most cost effective and most productive land rigs that Nabors has...so it's helped him keep his job.  They've got the current location secured right now for another year or two from what he's told me.

Don't know if any of that helped you, but I thought I let you know since at least it's your same state.
