I live in new mexico, and there are so many rumors down here about PA having a boom. Currently a business partner of one of my husbands companies is in PA. He is metting with companies about putting some trucks there. My father-in-law was also recently offered a great job up there, he lives in the same town as us, and thats a HUGE move. I've heard of other business here opening yards up there. Anyone know anything about Pennsylvania's Oilfield?

I live in PA and that's what daddy does here. It is a busy field and supplies a lot of jobs. There are companies from Texas in our town that are here drilling, too.

I think for now we are going to stop looking for a house to buy. We brought our 5th wheel with us, and while it is not ideal, we are going to live in it for a while and see if we can eventually find a decent rental.... My hubby doesn't work for Chesapeake, he works for a casing company. He has heard from some Chesapeake people that they are probably going to build a 200 unit or so housing building for some of their people. You are right about the greed, I have looked at a ton of houses for sale, and only a couple were habitable..... And I feel a lot is overpriced. As for rentals, right now I feel that is a lost cause. I am just glad we have our 5th wheel, its a little cramped with 2 little ones, but it's a 40 ft. 4 slide toy hauler and it's a heck of a lot nicer than ANY rental I have looked at. LOL

You are so right Nicole! We are toying with the idea of buying, we just don't want to be stuck with a house if we choose to move on. ( I am still optimistic that after we get rid of the buffoons in office someone will have the common sense to continue the drilling in the west) I heard that Chesapeake is going to be building for their employees, but nothing in general as far as apts or condos or townhomes or whatever. For now we are going to be using our 5th wheel. Not ideal, but no choice. We have been in a house that hubby's company has here, but we can't mooch forever.....

We are having the same problem....except we used to be locals we just moved back from Virginia in Feb. and we can't find Jack up here! And we def. can't afford $1200.00 a month! I think these landlords are thinking they can get a group of guys to move in a pay it but they forget about the ppl with families!! We at the time being have just decided to look into buying a house it will probably be cheaper! Our problem is we need Elk Lake School District and there is NOTTTHINGGGGGGGGG.....I petition we start building some apartment complexes LOL!

We have been in WY and as you all know, those fields are pretty well shut down for now. My hubby took a transfer with his company and we are now in PA. So far so good, work is getting better all the time. I think right now is kind of the calm before the storm. More and more picking up daily. We are in Bradford County, and the only issue so far is housing. It is VERY sparse. What little available housing there is, the landlords have totally jacked up the prices. $6000 a month is what some crazies are asking! I have been looking and looking, and haven't found anything. I looked at one the guy wanted $1000 a month and it had holes in the floors and broken windows. Not sure where you guys would be living, but if you come here, that would be the only obstacle.

The Oilfield is booming up here.....Through the grapevine I heard there is enough oil and natural gas to keep them drilling for the next 15-20 years....My husband is in Lousianna now but he is going to be moving to a rig up here in PA in about 1 month....His company is Nomac Drilling through Chesapeake Energy! And its the Marcellus Shale region if thats of any help.

from what i hear they are planning on creating a new crew up there. the rumor is they are making a huge crew. my husband put in his application for a transfer. they told him they are going thru the application process right now and they were on a freeze cause of the layoffs. we are hoping we will end up there.

My husband works for a company based in Texas and has been told that he will probably end up in PA for an undetermined amount of time!  Not sure what that means, but we have also been told some of North Dakota is getting ready to open up as well.
