I was a stay at home mom for 13 years. Last April I got a part-time job at our local video store, and I LOVE it! My kids are 14 (boy) and 7 (girl). I mostly work when the kids are in school. My daughter gets off the bus at the store on the days I work. I get out of the house, make a little money, and I am good at my job. Personally, I have found that my husband seems to respect me more since I have started working outside the home. It was an interesting adjustment for the husband and the kids spending time together when mom is scheduled to work on school holidays. He actually said to me one morning,"Well, what if I wanted to go fishing?" I told him, "Do what I do... take them with you!". lol

I am a teacher. I see lots of stay-at-home moms on here. I would love to be able to stay home with my kids. - Or at least cut back to part time. My husband just started on a rig, so hopefully in time I'll be able to! I'm afraid tho that I'll go insane not being around adults. - Especially when hubby is gone so much of the time. Isn't that tough?
I can't speak for the ladies that have husbands gone for days at a time, I just know even with my husbands sometimes 15 hour days it gets tough. When we had our 1st son he was still redoing cars and was home by 3pm most days and I was working for Home Depot and rarely worked past 4pm, now he leaves at 5am and doesn't get home especially in the summer until around 8pm, so there lots of times that my kids go a day or two without really spending time with him and I do start to feel like am a single mom, I am very fortunate and I have a very good friend that lives across the street from us and we talk daily and she is always willing to help out, her kids are the same age as mine.
We also made the choice to live in the same hometown as my parents and his parents only live 11 miles away in another small town, my sister and her husband moved home this last summer, so I always have family back-up. I don't know how mom's without family or friends close do it...I always feel bad for the mommies because we end up giving so much of ourselves that sometimes we get lost.

hmmm what do I do for a living???? heh.....I am a photographer!! I know, most of the people in my family thought I was a complete dolt for making that career choice .... but what can I say...I have a profound love and a great passion for art! I chose this because it is something I love, I care little about making the mega bucks. After I found out I was pregnant though, I chose to put my career on a mini hold. Now I am strictly freelance :) much better for me so that I can stay home with the baby while my man is gone :)

I work at home as a Marketing Rep for a wholesale wellness co. They have household cleaning products that are toxin-free and less expensive than national brands. It's wonderful to be able to keep busy but still be at home with my kids.... and earn a little extra on the side.

But i would much rather raise them myself-instead of having to look back&wonder who were they with? Who taught them these things? I've stayed home since i was 4months pregnant with our youngest.

I work for the University of Wyoming as an Assistant Director in Financial Aid. Didn't go to school for this job, but have been working in Financial Aid for 15 years now. I work for the State, so my job is fairly safe. Have to keep this job to make sure we have insurance and income if anything does happen to my husband's job! Would love to go back to school and finish my Master's. So when Hubby can handle 100% of our bills, I will go back.......someday before I am too old I hope! LOL!

I have been a domestic goddess since I became pregnant with my first child. We moved shortly after we found out due to a job transfer and I just haven't ever gone back to work. I was going to be going back to work here soon, because our first has just entered kindergarden, but we found out in the beginning of the year that we were pregnant with our second and he's due to arrive sometime in late September. So I got my girlie in school just in time to start again with a new little person. Go figure. :)

I am a Medical Office Administrator. I have always worked and don't know what I would do with myself if I didn't! The oil industry is so unpredictable, especially lately, that I have always felt it was important for me to work just because we needed the stability. Sometimes I wish I could be at home with the girls and just enjoy my husbands paycheck but we all know that you have to stash it away because you never know when he won't be getting one. My friends say that if their husbands made that kind of money they would surely stay home...ha...well thank goodness I didn't listen to them!

I am actually very suprised to see how many rig wifes work!!! I have been an oilfield wife for about 5 years, and all the wifes I have met basically stay at home, take care of the kids, and soak up the money. Which, I have to say, being on both sides at one point. I have stayed at home, and I have worked. Staying at home, in my opinion, is much harder (emotionally) than working.
After staying at home for a year and doing the same thing every thing every day, my life began to feel like a broken record stuck on the same song. So, I decided to go back to school. I will receive my associate in business in Feb. Which, my hubby wants me to continue to my bachelor so we can open our own business in the oil industry. But, I have plans to go on to forensics, so we will see. My choice is much more exciting, and more my style. I'm too nice to own a business!! LOL
