How long have you been on methadone for?

Hi Jenn!! i am 36 and i have been on Methadone for about 7 years!! i find that it has allowed me to live my life normal, and natural, without feeling anxious, or uncomfortable! I don't care that i am STILL on it!! I would rather be on it and just METHADONE then have craving and put myself, my family, and my clean time in danger!!! Tip: Never listen to OTHER PEOPLE That aren't on methadone about them saying things they HAVE no DIRECT knowledge of being on it.... stick to what works for u and helps you to live a "regular" life!! THAT is what is IMPORTANT!!! :)

I am 27 years old. I was on subutex for a year and a half...and then the doctor found out I was pregnant. At 5 months pregnant I was left with nothing to take after being sober and on subutex for the past year and a half. He referred me to a methadone clinic, and I did not want to go. Instead, I tried going back and forth in between lortabs and suboxone to keep from withdrawing and being sick. Finally, I decided 2 months later the best thing to do WAS methadone...so for the past month and a half, I have been going to a methadone clinic. I am only on 45 mg a day... and my due date is in 2 weeks. I am soo nervous about the baby being addicted and needing to stay in the hospital. I realllly hope he doesn't need any morphine and is able to come home with me... has anyone else had any similar experiences?? Any advice would realllly help! thanks!!

I am so sorry girls, I have been away from COM from quite some time so I am just now reading your messages, my sincerest apologies. That is great to hear that methadone is working for you all. I have been on the program for just over 2 years and it definitly saved my life and my family. However, i am working on slowely weaning myself off, I feel that i am ready and confident that i will never return to that lifestyle. People tend to judge harshly when they find out your on methadone but they would judge even more harshly if your were still using. So you're kinda damned if you do; damned if you don't, in their eyes anyways. I think it is a great thing, however, and it is so nice to know that you are not alone. I am 27 and I've been on Methadone for 5 years in july. I have had 2 babies on this medication & they have both been perfect,nothing like the terrible stories u hear about. I had 2 children before I got in to treatment & I can really tell a difference in the way im now with them. And thaat makes me feel awful,to think that I was on things after I had My 1st 2 kids& how I may have been,SoThis treatment has saved my life& my babies.

I'm 27 and I was on suboxone for almost 4 years and now I've been on methadone for a few months! I think it's a lifesaver!
