My husband and I are Directors of Oasis Special Needs Ministry at Elim Church in Houston, TX. We have only just started in September and are looking to network with other churches with ministries relevant to special needs. Currently we serve children with any special needs up to age 12 while the rest of the family attends our church services. Hope to connect with some of you soon!

Hey there Deborah, our church has a few special needs children that we are trying to figure out how to reach out to. One of them is autistic and is very violent and so I recently asked my husband if I could start doing the bible study with him one on one and then bring him into the classroom with the other kids to play for the last 20 min. I was wondering if you had any information on free training on how to handle autistic children and any other info you think might be relevant for me to begin this ministry. I live in Arizona and just don't know where to being. Thanks for any help you can provide Deborah, the Lord bless you!

Yeah, I'm not being specific because our ministry is not disability specific...just age specific for now (up to age 12 only...hopefully we can serve youth and adults too in the near future). We care for and minister any and all children with any type and degree of special need in our children's center if the parents want us to so they can go to adult services. I was just wondering if there was anyone else that did this same thing...doesn't matter if it is age or disability specific.
