How long did you breastfeed your child? Or, if still breastfeeding, what is your tentative weaning age?

I wanted to breastfeed for the first year, but I only made it five months. When I returned to school, there was no where for me to pump in private, and it all just got too hard. Hopefully with my next child I'll be able to go the whole first year.

I never had a plan as far as how long I wanted to breastfeed, I winged it lol. He would not take a bottle or any kind of formula for EVER, so it was good for both of us that BFing was working! When he was 8.5 months old he took a bottle at a friend's house, and that's when I started weaning. Withing two weeks he was off the boob.
My mom couldn't BF us, and a lot of my family pressured me. My dad thought he was 'too old' at three months! Do whatever you're comfortable with, don't let others affect your parenting. I wanted to wean at that point because when he was about six months old I started getting clogged duct after clog after clog, and eventually a breast infection. It was terrible pain, and when he took that bottle my prayers were answered haha.

Whenever you are most comfortable with it and your child as well. Some women can go for years, others like me meer weeks. Some say when teeth break through. Whether or not you wean in the first year or not is your child's and your choice. Each child is different. But a child weaned in the first year needs formula to supplement for the weaned breast milk, and after a year starting with regular milk, and then changing from bottle to sippie. That is my advice hope it helps out!

I breastfed my first son until he was about 13 months old. He still wanted to nurse and we both cried many tears during the weaning process. I felt pressured by family and friends who were constantly saying he was getting "too old for that". My second son is 16 months old and still nurses twice a day (morning and nightime), but has been taking less time to nurse as the months go by. I'm hoping he'll self-wean sometime this summer.

I weaned all 3 of my children at 1 year. I was told by our doctor they only need breast milk or formula for the 1st year of life.
