Warning I recommend avoiding the Catholic School System when selecting a school for your child. Below is the letter that I emailed to the school officials today. It is a brief summary of how my child was treated.
I received a phone call this morning from the Principal that my 5-year-old son who was diagnosed with ADHD in 2009 is no longer welcomed at Saint Francis Cathedral School. Mind you that it is April 30 there is now only 6 weeks left to the school year. Not only do I find this appalling of how the Catholic school system is now traumatizing a 5 year old who has been diagnosis with a disability, it is outrageous that after paying tuition all year long 6 weeks before he is set to complete his school year now he is not welcomed! I am told that the school is not able to handle his special needs and that he needs more then they are able to offer him. After dealing with the school over the last two years I completely agree she is correct. However how dare you wait till the school year is at the cusp of finishing when this decision is finally made?
4.5 million children 5-17 have been diagnosis with ADHD in the United States. It is a disability that needs to be nurtured and worked with by trained professionals. After this last year of dealing with Saint Francis Cathedral it has been made very clear your staff is not trained to deal with children with behaviour disabilities and should be clearly stated upon registration. I attempted several times to work with the school and his teachers, with no avail there was no progress made. Your staff is not trained or fit to work with children with a behaviour disability.
Shouldn’t this decision to have my son removed from the school have been made months ago, rather then 6 week before the year-end?????? How dare your organization further traumatize a child with a disability?
I have contacted both the Home News Tribune and the Star Ledger. I am also seeking legal council. I am fine with my son no longer attending your facilities, you are by no means qualified to assist him, however it is unacceptable that he is removed 6 weeks before the school ends after paying tuition all year. Traumatizing a 5 year old with a disability is sinful.
