my daughter just started vyvanse two weeks ago the doctor said that she is worried about her losing weight. she lost two pounds in two weeks. She said if she keep losing the weight there going to have to try something else. This medication is helping her so much, she is alot calmer and doing better in school. so how do I help her and make to where she doesn't lose much weight?

My son has been on meds since he was 3, he is now 10. He has always had an appetite even on the meds....He must have a high metabolism. He actually weighs 65lbs now, the Intuiv is helping him to gain weight. I give my son large portions at dinner time and he eats it all....We have to change his medicine on a regular 6 month basis....Or his liver builds up an immunity to it and it stops working.

MY SON IS ON VYVANCE 30MG AND THE DOCTOR PUT HIM ON A WEIGH GAINER TOO . . . MY SON IS 8 AND ONLY 52LBS . . . HIS DOCTOR TOLD ME TO LET HIM EAT REALLY ANYTHING HE WANTS TOWARDS EVENING . . . HE LOVES PEANUT BUTTER, SO I'M LIKE GO FOR IT . . . LOL . . . IF THE DOCTOR NOTICES A WEIGHT ISSUE, MAYBE YOU SHOULD MENTION SOMETHING FOR HER APPETITE . . .

My 7yr old was on Vyvanse and he lost quite a bit of weight then he started evening out after awhile on it and was eating normal again..then I go and change his med to Intuniv and he's gained almost 15lbs in a little over 2 wks..and this medicine has done the opposite than the Vyvanse! I feel like i messed everything up with him! I am calling the Dr tomorrow to get him off this and find out a better choise of medicine for him! good luck and if you feel something is off or worriesome with your child don't put it off!! thanks :)

Most Add or adhd meds make children not hungry so you need to really discuss this issue with her explain to her that even if she does not feel hungry at lunch time she still needs to eat something. Our rule with my son is that he has to eat the main meal out of his lunch whether he is hungry or not which for the most part he does, we have the side effect of stomach aches from the meds if he doesn't eat so this does help encourage him to eat regularly. Keep snacks and finger foods on hand for her to snack on, if you put out healthy choices like cheese yogurt, vegetables that sort of thing she will eat at least a little bit. It is hard because as children they don't understand the importance of fueling their bodies. Just keep encouraging her to eat I hope this helps.

Make sure she eats as much as she will before you give her her meds. A good healthy breakfast. eggs, fruits, protein drinks. Have snacks she likes after school, small amounts but make them available to her often. She may only eat a hand full at a time. Don't make a big deal about the food. If she realizes not eating gives how power she may start to use it against you and eat to get her way. Fix her a protein shake/malt before bed. Make sure she takes good vitamins. http://www.tyh.us/index.php/liquid-vitam... These help with mood stability and I have found even though I usually have very little appetite that I am actually hungry during the day. My son who is also on ADD med's told me that he is hungry all the time now since he started taking them. When the body begins getting the nutrition it needs it will begin to learn what it needs and you begin to get signals that it needs nutrition. I swear my son has grown an inch this week. We just started on the vitamins the beginning of this week. My depression is better, moods have improved. I can tell my children and husband feel better and they actually are looking for things to eat.

Hope that helps.
