Hello does anyone have their child on or have tried Intuniv? My son has taken two doses of 1mg and it's giving him horrible stomach pain and diarrhea and a headache, and it's only been two night. This medicine is really making nervous, since it's really a blood pressure medicine, how can this help him think better with school work. We already tried strattra, but it gave him horrible stomach pain and heartburn.

Try the Mountain Dew. The caffeine content is higher in that and it's the caffeine that helps calm them down. While caffeine will cause a Non ADHD child to become hyper and get out of hand. However, the Mountain Dew has the exact opposite effect on ADHD children. Their brains are firing so fast, it's hard for them to slow down. The caffeine fires off the synopsis in their brains and slows them down so they can focus for longer period of times. I will keep you guys in my prayers. I know how hard it is when you are trying to do what is best for your baby. Just hang in there because you are taking all the right steps. You are doing a great job!! Just hang in there and you'll find the right one for him.

He is 7 years old, I have given him a Pepsi before when he seems really out of control to see if it would help. He sleeps better off the medicine then he does on it. Today he was so tired he was just out of it, and he hasn't had any medicine since last night. It's just making him so tired, and then just before he went to bed he said his nose is stuffy, that's another side effect! I swear he is getting every single one.

How old is your son. I know that I can give my daughter Mountain Dew (the soda) and it works equivalent to the ADHD medicine because the caffeine in the drink counteracts how fast her brain is firing off. I know that is not a permanent solution, but it might help until you find one that works really well. My niece is 8 years old and she had very similar effects to the intuniv. Her parents put her on Adderall and they were amazed at how well it worked for her. Her body needed the stimulant to function. As I stated before, every child is different and you know your child best. Follow your instincts and listen to what you know to be best for him. You can try the stimulants and if he shows the side effects, take him off of it. Also, does he sleep well at night? My daughter has severe insomnia because her brain won't shut down enough to let her sleep. The pediatrician told me that not getting enough rest can create enhanced ADHD problems. I hope things get better. I know how you feel about the stimulants. It took me 7 years to finally agree to let them put my child on medication.

It's only been two days!! I'm not giving it to him tonight and calling his doctor in the morning. I don't think this medicine is for him. I don't know what to do we have tried both non stimulates, and I'm afraid to try the stimulates because he has ticks.

If he is having that many side effects, you need to pull him off the medication and call your doctor immediately. The more side effects he has, the more his body is telling him this medicine is not compatible with him. Talk to your doctor. I wouldn't wait for the two weeks to be up.

Goodness!!! When I picked him up from school today he said his leg hurt and his head. :o( I think he is having every side effect! I haven't talk to him about side effect, because I didn't want him thinking he was getting them. So he is being honest with me.

My son takes the generic equivalent of Intuniv, Guanfacine, for ODD and anger control. He hasn't had any side effects at all. It doesn't do a thing for his ADHD, though, for which he takes Metadate, but it does decrease his anger.

My daughter is 9 and is on intuniv. We have seen massive improvements on this drug. We have tried focalin, adderoll, and vyvanse. All of these other stimulants created some side effects for my daughter, but so far the Intuniv has only been helpful in keeping her focused. That being said, all children are different and if your child is having side effects that are unacceptable to you, talk to your doctor and try something else. Unfortunately, there is no perfect way to determine what works best. It truly is a trial and error. You know your child best and should follow your instincts on the medications for him.

Have you mentioned this to his doc? I wonder if it isn't from the meds and is a symptom of something else? Just a thought... best of luck. Finding the right med/meds can be a frustrating experience. Maybe taking with a piece of bread will help if it is the medication. My son did not complain of that on the Intuniv, but we had other challenges with it, so he does't take it anymore. He is on Vyvanse and Focalin.

It's only been two days, so I'm going give it a few weeks at least. He said it really hurts his tummy. He said the strattera didn't hurt his stomach as much, but he would complain of the heart burn.

My stepson is on intuniv and we have seen wonderful results with literally no side effects except him being tired really early in the evening. He has been on it for just about the whole school year and is actually on 2mg. All kids react differently but this is the first med that we've had success with. We have paired this with focalin in the mornings which has worked fairly well. I feel your pain as we've bounced from med to med not knowing what to do.
