Just started my 10 y.o. on Intuniv, great response, except still not sleeping at night.

Has anyone had any luck administering this drug during the day and having their child fall asleep at night and yet not be drowsy during the day?

My 9 y.o. daughter has been on Intuniv 2mg since last August. We went the stimulant route to begin with, but it caused a lot of anger/violent outbursts. With Intuniv, it has helped her hyperactivity a lot, and attention somewhat. As for the sleeping, we tried giving it to her at night, but she slept through the next day, so we give it to her in the morning and she does well through the school day. You just have to figure that one out, based on your own child. She does not have any problem going to sleep at night, but we do let her wind down a little with a good book if she has time :-)

My son's pediatrician prescribed Intuniv for anger and he takes it at night with no problem sleeping. My daughter takes Metadate CD for ADHD.

We have had bettEr success with the intuniv then stimulants. My daughter takes 3mg. She finally has straight a' s and is a normal weight. When she was on concert a she had no weight or height gain in 3-4 grades. Website straterra before the intuniv. It didn't work at all.
So in my case, intuniv for ADHD has worked wonderfully.

My 5 yr old has ADHD, ODD & PTSD. Intuniv works great for my 5yr old. We gave it to her at night time 'til she got use to the medicine and then switched it to the morning time. She's currently on 2mg but the dr and I are discussing raising the dose to 3mg as I think she's adapted to the 2mg. You might try talking to your dr about the sleep problems. For the longest time my daughter called it her sleeping pill cause it made her drowsy. Before being on Intuniv she had sleeping problems, since she's been on the medicine we haven't experienced any sleep problems. Hope this helps.

I keep wondering why doctors are giving kids with ADHD Intuniv. All it is is Guanfacine (Tenex) in a different package, one they can charge more for since the other version is now off patent. As a generic it is a whole bunch cheaper than Intuniv.

In my experience with my son, Guanfacine helps with anger, not ADHD. The only medications that have really worked with ADHD historically have been "uppers" or stimulants all of which are variations of either Dextroamphetamine or Methylphenidate, with the exception of Vyvanse which is yet another stimulant still on patent called Lisdexamfetamine (from the name I suspect it is a form of amphetamine).

Does anyone actually see real success in controlling ADHD when their child is on Intuniv alone?

When does your child take the intuniv. we had trouble with sleep when my 10yr old took it at night. She now takes it in the morning and sleeps better.

Good luck

My son takes the 3mg but he's 13. Does your son take anything else with it? Mine takes this in addition to the concerta. I think ADHD kids have a hard time sleeping in general.

My son has been on it for awhile...He's been on 1, 2, 3mgs...He was drosy with the 3mgs so we went down to the 2mgs....He's doing great on the 2mgs. He takes it in the morning right now. He goes to sleep great at night and sleeping better at least I think he is and all. Hope this helps a little.
