My daughter is 10 and was diagnosed with ADD 3 years ago. She has been struggling with her math for a couple of years now. I have sat and worked with her on her math, but if she doesn't have someone right there the whole time, it doesn't get done . 10 multiplication questions shouldn't take 45 mins to do, Now she's struggling with division....

Does anyone have any tips on how to conquer the mulitplication table ?

(my mom would make us sit for an hour everyday for a month at the kitchen table saying the times tables over and over and over...)

I really can't sit with her everyday until she graduates !

My son struggles with basic math facts too.  Songs work wonders though as well as learning to skip count.  Make it a game.  Learning is an adventure!  For multiplication I highly recommend Multiplication Rock (VHS or DVD).  I'm sure there have to be other math songs out there, I just don't have any others.  Also my son's counselor advised us that we could use sticky notes around the house....put math facts on them and have each room be a different number.  Stick them on things that are commonly used.  Each time the child goes to use that item (turn on/off the light, open the door, etc) they have to recite the math fact.

BTW, the math complications is called discalcula if you want to search for it on the web.

It could also be a visual processing problem.  That is the root of many of my son's ADD problems.  I am currently looking for someone to help us with that.

My daughter also struggles with math so far she has made it to her 11's in multiplication. Have you tried games or music CD's geared for multiplication? My daughter seems to learn better when you make it seem fun for her.

I can completly relate! My daughter is 11 and has the same problem. Not much has worked for her but trying to get her to write them over and over again worked a little. Maybe try to make song out of it. Girls this age tend to remember music more than anything. I hope this works. Sorry I couldn't help more.

My sons' doctor told me children w/ADHD have trouble recalling math facts quickly and should not be expected to. Once the child understands the concept and is ready to move on more complex math they should be allowed to use a calculator. My oldest son is in seventh grade and I had it written in his IEP that he be allowed to use a calculator. My middle son, who is also ADHD, doesn't have as much trouble with math so each kid is different. I have to sit with my oldest when he does his math homework also, as a matter of fact, I make him bring it home even if he has it done so I can check it. The teachers can only do so much when they have so many other students to deal with. Talk with your pediatrician about what should be expected. We see a developmental pediatrician who specializes in children with behavioral issues, like ADHD.
