Please help me. My son was diagnosed with ADHD a couple of years ago, and now we've been having certain problems which have just come up. The doctor says he may have been misdiagnosed, and wants him to go in for testing for Bipolar and Schitzophrenia. I am scared, and not sure what this is all about. Does anyone know what they look for in bipolar and schitzophrenia?

My son is 11yrs old and he was diagnosed with ADHD and a mood disorder borderline bi-polar. I know exactly how you feel I was scared to death when they told me that Nick could be bi-polar because you only here about the horror stories of bi-polar but I promise you, you will feel better once you know. Bi-polar disorder signs are short tempers, dramatic mood swings and there is never a happy medium in their tempers, its either really good or really bad and they really can't control themselves. They can confuse ADHD with bi-polar because they are so much alike but with ADHD kids can learn to control it as they get older, with bi-polar they can't. I hope that everything goes well for you and the best advice that I can give to you is always be there for you son and let him know that no matter what you will always be there, it will get better for all of you I promise.

My 11 year old son has gone through years of testing and currently is in a special school for what they have said for a long time is bi-polar. Bi-Polar and ADHD are very similar and I would have him tested by at least 2 different doctors before you allow them to label him. I know one of the major things they look for in schitzophrenia is hearing voices, talking to themselves and paranoia. Look up the syptoms on-line so you know which ones he has before he goes in for testing. Good Luck, and remember...deep breathes you can do it!!
