Hello my name is Kristy, I have a son that was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 3y/o. He is now 5. We have tried most of the stimulant drugs that are out there. The Adderall effected his appetite TOO much..had to force him to eat. So we changed to Ritalin but only after taking it a month he deleveoped a tic so we immediately took him off that. He is now taking Vyvanse 30mg, so far this seems to be doing ok. He has only been on the Vyvanse for about a month. With the Vyvanse I have noticed that he has had a couple of what I call 'melt downs'...when I ask him to do something he is so determined not to that he gets into a yelling fit, he just screams and thrashes around. So when talked to the dr about this he suggested that we put him on the Intuniv as well, he has only been taking the intuniv for 2 days, or rather guess should say nights since he takes the Intuniv at night & Vyvanse in the morning. I was wondering if anyone elses kids were on both and how they are working out? My husband thinks that this is just too much and that he doesn't need both. Any advice would help, I have been trying to explain to my husband why he needs both of these meds but I just can't seem to make him understand that both may be needed to help.

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one with meltdowns! I told My mom and husband that something is up because he has always been hyper but the "FITS" didn't start until the vyvanse.. We are going to be going to the dr soon..

Has the Intuniv seemed to work??

UGH I keep thinking there has to be something that helps with ADHD it is horrible!!
I am thinking of trying something other than Vyvanse but hate to see him go through all the side affects..
BUGS? Wow ya that is no good!
I totally get the school thing.. In trouble everyday!

My son (6yrs) was on VyVance 50mg and Intuniv 1mg....but was having a feeling of bugs on his skin. We tried going less with VyVance but the bugs remained. Now we are trying Folican but his is getting into trouble at school. What stress!

I have 6 year old twin girls that are both speech delayed and both diagnosed with ADHD. I placed them on Intuniv 1mg daily late December. They have shown great improvement in kindergarten. At home they both tend to be aggressive towards one another. But I think that is normal behavior. When it escalates I stop it right away. I think that the majority of children from 2 - 12 have fits now and again. My doctor told me if they have a tantrum to not get upset but ignore it...vey had to do. The Intuniv is a non stimulant and the reason I chose it. It does not interfere with their appetite. You may need only that medication. It can be taken with a dosage up to 4mg/day.

To be honest I still have yet to really find the bet way to deal with my son's melt downs. I usually give him a few minutes to try to calm down, then talk to him. Even though he usually is still having his fits while I'm trying to talk to him. I would tell your doctor about this if you have not already because from what I got from my doctor is that is the main reason my child was put on another medicine to help with his aggresion and melt downs.

well the intuniv is kind of a high blood presser pill , and if u were to talk him off it u need to do what a dr said , , but i have one kid on folican & intuniv ( 10yrs) and one on conserta ( 7 yrs) both seen to be doing well , my 7 yrs old has only been on it for a bout 2 months now , and my 10yrs old has been on it since he was 5 , i have to say folican was one of the best for him , last summer we tryed two other med and i told the dr i wanted him back on folican it was just right for him , all kids r diffrent , also with the dr is he or she in the feald for adhd or is it a regular dr , if so try to find a dr office that deals with kids like this and maybe even get him to a thearpas just to help u deal with stuff or help him get stuff out , with a kid that has adhd sometime expressing emotion is hard and for a 5yrs old is most difficult
