Today I have been thinking about how to have a positive perspective. I don't naturally have a positive outlook. This is something I have to be intentional about or get swallowed up in the negative. The negatives are quite easy to identify, aren't they?
In Phillipians 4:8, God says "Always think about what is true. Think about what is noble, right, and pure. Think about what is lovely and worthy of respect. If anything is excellent or worthy of praise, think about those kinds of things....The God who gives peace will be with you."
I have started writing the positive things down in what I call a Hope Journal. It helps me immensely to read it when I feel overwhelmed by all the negatives. Barbara Johnson (speaker and author of Plant a Geranium in your Cranium) suggests having a joy room in your house with joyful and positive things tacked all over your walls. In her book she tells of her journey through cancer and shows how to have hope even when faced with devastating illness.
I want to encourage you to make a point of focusing on the good things that have come out of your hard circumstances. It has helped me to find peace in the difficult times. In Romans 8:28 it says, "We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him." We can have hope and find purpose even when it's difficult. Thank you, God.
