Hello Ladies,
In Irene’s absence – here is today’s post. Hope this will encourage a good response from all of you and get you talking to each other!
Sometimes trying to lose weight can be really difficult or frustrating and that’s when we need a “weight loss buddy” to turn to:
• Someone who will remind us why we are doing this!
• Someone who will help us stay motivated and committed to our weight loss plan.
• Someone that can give us the support/encouragement to carry on when we’re having a bad day/week and who will be our cheering squad during the good times!
Yes – family, friends or your partner can help but the only person that can understand what you are going through is a weight loss buddy in the same position as you.
The best weight loss buddy is someone that has a similar experiences and struggles to yours.
For instance – my “buddy” would be someone that is a new mum that is staying home with the baby and hardly ever gets any time to herself - as a result she can’t go to keep fit classes or the gym. There would be little benefit in pairing off with someone that works full time and hits the gym every night on her way home from work as our day to day challenges would differ.
It has to be someone that has similar weight loss goals as well so that you can set each other targets, tasks and rewards.
Just having someone that can listen without judgement on a one to one basis can be a big help. They also have to kick your butt (metaphorically) when you are sabotaging yourself or threatening to give up!
If you live in the same area or time zones – you can chat to each in real time instead of posting or even give each other a call instead of reaching for that snack!
The worst thing that can happen is that you can make a new friend and please remember that it is not a competition about who can lose the most amount of weight in the shortest space of time - it is about helping you to meet YOUR OWN PERSONAL goals!!
Take care of yourselves and keep up the good work!
Salma
