209.5  for me and I was on vacation, so that's not bad i guess.  Down 3 from 2 weeks ago.

I've been reading a lot about weight loss and "toning". The biggest thing that has jumped out at me is the fact that as we get older, we naturally lose muscle, which is a leading factor to why it's so much harder to lose weight at 40  as opposed to 20 or 30. I've read that at the gym, we should be trying to Muscle build instead of "toning". We are told to do 3 reps of 12-15, for example, but what we should be doing is 5 reps of a much heavier weight and make more muscle to burn fat MUCH faster. Apparently the best way to make more muscle is to completely exhaust the muscle which signals it to get stronger for next time. Doing things the other way is just tickling ourselves compared to really requiring more of our muscles. Also, doing the same exercises over and over at the weight we're told to do will get ourselves very used to it very quickly and not really be doing any good at that point. I was always told to worry about looking too muscular if using too heavy a weight, but mostly women's bodies aren't built for that so don't worry about it! Who knew? More muscle = better fat burn capabilities just by being alive!? Sounds good to me, now the trick is finding time to go to the gym!! lol

Quoting Adrienne:

Hello everyone! I had a baby 6 weeks ago (on Thanksgiving) and while I am not going to over do it trying to lose weight, I do have have a weight goal, and to reach it, I need to lose almost 60 lbs. I am a breastfeeding mom, so I know I need to take it slow, but I need the support and encouragement to stay on track.
My husband and I are planning on going to Hawaii for our 10 year anniversary (Sept. 2010) and I want to be at my goal at least by then. If I can do it, I am going to reward myself with surfing lessons!
My current weight is about 203 (I was 230 on Thanksgiving before having the baby)

Hi Adrienne,

I was also a breastfeeding mom- of twins. The best thing you can do for yourself, and baby is to take full advantage of the 500 calories or so per day you are burning just by breastfeeding. I lost 50 lbs just by doing this and walking- another great thing to do with baby. Give yourself a whole year of BF- it will be the easiest time in your life to lose weight. I should have taken more advantage of it by changing my eating habits then- I have gained 20lbs of it back since weaning. Just look around to see how much exercising you'd have to do PER DAY to equal that caloric burn!! I cringe now. LOL Now I have at least 40lbs to lose instead of the 25 had I kept off what I lost while BF. Good luck!!

Hi,
I've joined weight watchers finally, a few months ago, and started up a Biggest Loser at work because that's where the free snacks and lunches were really throwing me off. Now I eat great at work but seems that these bad habits have trickled there way back home with all the junk my hubby buys. Ugh. I'm almost ready to start putting all the candy, chocolate, brownies he buys in the sink and grind away. Would this be unfair, lol. Weighed in at 212.6 Friday.

I love the New Year and resolutions. I hope that this group can help me to stick with it thru July and beyond. I started a week and half ago at 201 and am down to 196. I have gone walking with the dog some more and not eating late at night. Also started at the Chiropractor and that is going well. Hope everyone keeps going!!

Ok, sticking to the topic for this particular thread... I don't know how this happened or if my scale is lying to me but I began the week at 205 on my scale (203ish at the doctor) then on Thursday I was 194 and today I am 193 so I am doing well. As someone mentioned above, OK I put it out there so hopefully I can use this as motivation. I envision coming back to this thread often just to see how people are doing with the weight loss portion of their plan.

I just have to say today that after just a few workouts at the Y I am feeling like this is very doable!! Someone showed me how to use some of the machines and helped me set up a routine and I can already tell that the tummy crunch machine (abs) and others are going to help tighten up those muscles and so now I am ecnouraged to continue that. I have also been eating a Lean Cuisine for lunch at work with a fruit ( a friend of mine is doing it with Smart Ones) and then making myself eat 2 or 3 different non starchy vegetables at dinner instead of extra pasta or bread or whatever starch we are serving...I have lost 2 lbs this week!! I'm not really a big fan of veggies, but they do fill you up without adding too many calories - and the fiber is great too! I encourage you all to make those few changes you need to and stick to it. It will add up over the course of a year!!

Okay, I posted my personal contract and now this! if I have to put it out to the world then it will definitely motivate me to be mindful of my actions - or lack thereof. I have been 183 since around the time I stopped nursing about 3 1/2 months ago. I am thankful that I haven't continued to gain more than a couple pounds up and down, but I am ready change my habits. If I could quit smoking for good then I can do this. Its just a matter of being really conscious about what I am choosing in the moment and remembering I am worth my own time and attention! I am going to start what I used to do: eat the best bites first and SLOWLY- then leave the rest. I can't stand all that bread so I pick it off or eat the center of something instead of the crusty outside. I use baby spoons for my ice cream or yogurt. I cut up my finger food into tiny pieces so I can enjoy it longer. Here's to losing two pounds of stress this week!!!

Hi, my name is Arianna and I have a suggestion. I dont know if it'l help but it wont hurt to try. Granola bars can be very high in fat so maybe you could try 'fiber one' bars and drinking more water. Also you can try keeping snack size bags of baby carrots, celery sticks and grapes nearby to snack on throughout the day. Doing that may help you to eat more & still eat healthy.

This week I gained. It's not that I eat too much. It's that I don't eat. One meal, maybe, if I remember. Most days it's coffee and granola bars. I have to make myself eat, so that my body stops stealing every calorie I intake. It is a horrible habit, and it's driving me nuts. I eat less than my 3 year old, but I weigh over 300#. I bounce in the same lose 20 gain 20 for 3 years now. I am really hoping I see my 50# this year - no day but today, right?

hello, this is just what i needed, SUPPORT.

i have not wieghed myself, but i am sure its 219 or more, jan 1st i started eating "normal" amounts, like committed to 3 meals and no junk, and my pants already feel a smigit loose.

i went to a gym this morning and debated "joining" its an all woman gym and has super modern equipment but expensive, and i technically already have a gym, but its very slowpaced and i need major motivation to go there, so i am thinking about it this weekend, i am tempted to force myself to go to the one i already have and SAVE the money for smaller clothes,

like do i really need to spend money to committ??

but i just had lunch and it was decent, but this is the hour that i start grazing for a snack and i get online and see this mail, thank GOD.

so i will committ to hot tea and later i get an apple for my snack. i am very motivated right now, knowing that you are all here too.

thanks

I am starting back to a program that I successfully lost 45 pounds with but was concerned about putting it all back on once I got off so I stopped going for about six months and am happy to say that I maintained the loss. Although I am getting very sloppy now which is why I am excited to start back next week.  It is my goal to loose an additional 40 to 50 lbs.   I am not suggesting this for anyone else, but if you want to have higher weigth drops per week, this program focuses on high protein and I have to say although it is not always easy to stop to get protein on the road, it definately works.  It seems that when you add higher amounts of protein to your diet your hunger does not drive you during the day.  (to keep protein on hand hard boil some eggs so you can grab one when you are craving) -  here's to good luck for us all as the week progresses.

Hi everyone! Im happy to find a community where everyone has the same goal as me. I commited to losing 1.5-2 lbs a week this year, if I stick with it I will have lost 80 lbs by this time next year. Ive been trying the Weight Watchers points program on my own but logging everything I put in my mouth is tedious & I cant always make it to the gym, so I would really appreciate any tips or suggestions that have helped any of you with your weight loss goals.

This morning I weigh 191.4. That means I have lost a whopping .6 pounds this week. Are you frigging killing me!?! I ate right, exercised 5 days in a row and that's all I get! Man, that scale it lucky that I know that the number is skewed due to today being the second day of my period. Very fucking lucky. It sucks when you work so hard and you don't see the results you want. Yet, any loss is a good loss and next week will show promise. I just have to appreciate the small things and keep going.
