There have been many people starting threads on wanting to loose that baby weight, or trying to figure out how to start or what to do to loose the weight. Rather than looking at multiple threads I thought that having one place to start would be helpful.
Please share how you started your weight loss and how you are loosing that weight, be it baby weight or general weight gain. Maybe this could be a great first thread new comers could look at for support and advice and encouragement.

Dieting became a vicious cycle for me. I gained 55 lbs. with my last baby and I didn't know what to do. I was the heaviest I had ever been and every diet I tried failed. I gained the weight back every time. That was until I ran into a friend of mine named Nancy that I hadn't seen in like 3 months. The last time I had seen her she was really overweight and miserable with herself. Nancy told me about this product called Isagenix that absolutely changed her life. She lost 33 lbs. in 2 1/2 months and had this glow and spunk to her. I had to have this product when I seen how wonderful she looked and felt. I tried it and I lost 16 lbs. in 18 days. I melted the pounds off just like that and I feel like a million bucks. Now I am trying to do the same for women all over the world. Obesity is an epidemic in our country in both adults and now, even worse, our children. The great thing is this product is nothing but pure nutrition so it is safe for our kids as well. My goal is to try to help one person at a time to cleanse the impurities out of their bodies and replenish with nutrition so they can live a long healthy life. If you would like to experience this wonderful product I would like to assist you.

Thank You!
Jessica :)

Well i have a 6 mo old baby girl and she keeps me busy all the time. she constantly wants to be held or have attention on her! i gained a total of 40lbs in my pregnancy(1st one) and it was because i didnt feel like exercising at all while pregnant. so i want another baby in a yr or so... but i didnt want to have all the extra weight still when i do get pregnant again. i have lost 36 lbs total and have been only breastfeeding which in a way i think it helps but then again i think my body wants to hold onto my fat more because i am nursing still... so what i have been doing is working out at home with my Jenny McCarthy "Your Shape" Wii game for almost 2 mo now. i work out 5 to 7 days a week for about an hour a day. it has toned me up alot but i havent lost a ton of weight since starting the program (on the program ive lost about 5lbs)... im hoping i will start to lose more soon its hard i have to work out at night! but i absolutely LOVE "Your Shape" it makes you want to keep going because it scores you by percentage on how well you are doing the exercises! i highly recommend this workout game and it also goes at your own personal pace to how well you do on the excersies! Goodluck and let me know how it goes for anyone that tries it! i dont think anyone would be dissapointed!

I need advice on what to do if I want to lose weight while exclusively breastfeeding my 4.5 month old baby. Although I didn't gain much during the pregnancy I had major issues with my milk supply in the beginning and my son wasn't gaining any weight for the first 4 weeks so the midwife asked me to go on a high fat diet. I did that and we're doing fine now except that I've put on loads of weight throughout this process. Overall I'm eating healthy foods but I do tend to sneak in a few unhealthy snacks every now and again. I'm woried if I change my diet that it might affect my milk supply. I understand that fluids are key to increasing breast milk but that really hasn't been the case for me. Any suggestions on how to start losing the weight now?

Between exclusively breastfeeding (which is equal to a 30 minute cardio routine) and small excersizes (such as 20 situps in the morning) I lost 38 lbs my first 6 weeks. After that I continued to breastfeed and eat smaller portions than what I was used to during my pregnancy, and lost 70 lbs. My husband couldn't keep his hands off me and I've gained 20 back because I'm 6 months pregnant again

I've dabbled in exercise my whole life. After having my first child in '06 I had to really kick it up a notch. I just had my second and last child March 25,2009. As soon as I healed from my c-section I entered into my "get my body back" workout phase. I had really hard pregnancies and due to complications gained A LOT of weight. I started at 225lbs and am now at 151. Still have about 40 lbs to go...

Here is my current workout/nutrition:

M/W/F/Sat, I use our bowflex like gym. I alternate working upper and lower body. I'm trying to do just under my max for weight (thinking that the more weight I do the more muscle I can build to burn the fat, but by not totally maxing out I can still do more reps to burn more cals...). I use 15lb ( a weenie amount, I know) free weights for additional arm exercises too. (45 min workout)

T/Th I go for a three mile walk/ jog (with 20lb baby in my front pack), do some yoga and body weight resistance leg lifts and ab work. (Takes about an hour and a half)

I use my elliptical off and on during the week too. And I'm always mindful to make the most out of what I'm doing, like doing squats with baby in the front pack while loading the dishwasher. :) He probably wont walk 'till he is ten because I have him in that front pack so much. LOL

Nutrition:

Yes, I am breast feeding. He is 6 mo old now and my min goal is to make it till he is a year. I nursed my daughter till she was two, based on all the research I did that was a very beneficial time frame. I have a feeling he is going to be an early weaner though. I won't do anything that could jeopardize his health, so no supplements.

I eat very clean, at least I think I do. :) Breakfast: protein shake, Myofusion. Snack: yogurt, raw oats and granola, two strawberries mixed together. Lunch: salad (romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumber, green pepper) Snack: chicken breast (baked) OR tuna w/ multigrain crackers (100 cals) Dinner: steamed veggies (zucchini, green beans, carrots and/or broccoli) After workout: Protein shake #2 Total cals are around 1100 - 1300/ day. Cals were a bit more a day when he was solely nursing.

I've got a good prenatal too.

I'm losing about .2 of a lb or more a day. I want this to be steady and healthy weight loss, but as fast as it can while falling in that category. :)

Any tips or advice I'd love to hear it...? Hope my info is helpful to someone.

Crys :)

I've realized that if I didn't belong to a gym I don't think I'd be able to exercise at home as I lack the motivation on my own. My best suggestion for weight loss is healthy eating. go through the house and get rid of the 'junk' food like chips, cookies, crackers, anything with white flour and sugar. Really making the change in foods was the best thing I did and I'd highly recommend to others. Best wishes and welcome to the group.

I am new to the group but, I wanted write about the program I plan on starting after this baby is born (#5). I was going to start the Cinch program in the beginning of the year right before I found out I was pregnant. I have a close friend on it and she has lost 50lbs. and a total of 35 inches. Cinch focuses primarly on inch loss. She has inspired me so much! I am looking forward to starting the program. If you are interested in more info check out www.cinchplan.com/allisonclow There is a lot great info and a free weight analysis. Good luck everyone!

Since you are soooo pooped in the evening, can you squeeze in a run in the morning? Throw the baby in a playpen, or get up 30 minutes earlier... You can also be a lunchtime warrior and do your stuff on your lunch. No one needs to work through lunch time. You can also talk to the neighbors and see if they can take your daughter for an hour, or employ one of their older kids. Can you workout right after work before you pick up your child?
You've done great to drop 60 lbs, and you know what to do and how to do it! Keep to your water, and your clean foods, and make sure you are sleeping!

Im a single working mom who went from being in the best shape of my life and competing in local body building shows to being the heaviest I have ever been in my life after having my daughter. My daughter has just turned a year I have managed to go from 270 (what I weighed when I had her) to about 210. However I still have another 60 lbs or so to get to the weight I am comfortable at. I am having a hard time as fitting in exercises is almost impossible working 8-10 hour days and then still trying to find time to spend with my daughter. By the time I put her to bed at 8 I am so exhausted from the day that getting on my treadmill at home just has not happened. Any suggestions from other moms who are or were in the same situation as myself are greatly appreciated!!!!

I've lost 10 lbs since mid January, but now I am going to put forth some effort! I need to lose 60 more pounds! My husband and I wathch "The Biggest Loser" and my daughter (7) loves it to. If Julian or Bob say to do something, she is on it! We want our whole family to be healthy, and that starts with me and my husband setting a good example.

GET PAID TO LOSE WEIGHT

I had the same problem with weight loss or should i say weight gain. I went through major lower back surgery last year which enabled me to be very mobile so I slowly packed on the pounds, YUC. I had lots of down time to research diet & exercise programs and believe me it's not easy to start exercising after back surgery. I finally found a program that works because it provides lots of online community support, diet suggestions, supplements, exercise videos, online trainers,$ incentives and much more. I love this program so much that I became a coach & turned my diet & exercise into a home business. Geeze, who doesn't want to make money while they're losing weight, there's your incentive. my is just about 3 months old and I am slowly stating to try and shed the pounds. The biggest problem I found was finding a good breakfast that would give me the energy I need to start off my day. I started drinking Cornation breakfast anytime shakes. You just add milk and it provides with almost all your daily intake of vitatmins, fiber, etc. For exercise I have started walking, I usually take my walk mid afternoon, I find it gives me a small boost of energy so im not so tired when supper time roles around. I also do some exercises from the Carmen Electra workout video. The video has some great exercises to help tone and strengthen your body. I also find that when you workout and eat healthy it boosts your stamina which helps alot when it comes to your sex life. I have also been keeping track of my progress using a free online journal which I mentioned in a different post: http://www.circleofmoms.com/thread.php?e...

Hi Jessica-
I too hate working out alone. I NEED the group setting so that I feel like I'm accountable to others to show up and do the work. Of course being in the group also pushes me because I don't want to give up when others are still going. This is the main reason I joined an athletic club where there are classes. My current athletic club is closing so I looked at Urban Active but it was more of a gym and I'd have to do much on my own, so not me. So I've found another athletic club with some really great classes and my current zumba instructor will also be going there so I'll have that connection right off. Good luck with your weight loss!!!

hi everyone, you are all inspirations to me. I am a single mom to a beautiful 7month old and I agree with everyone on losing weight is difficult for me. I want to I just dont like working out by myself. I have been in a support group for people trying to lose weight and learned alot of useful things. Like high protein and lots of fiber in your diet is very good for you. Your colon holds at least 20pounds of waste gross right? On average a woman should have around 75grams of protein a day. You can go to herbalife.com
they sell shake mix...juices...protein bars...stuff to put in your water or tea...colon clenses and appitite suppresors etc. Its very useful and it keeps me from snacking all day long like i used to.
I hope this helps anyone who wants to try something different.
Also WATER WATER WATER is great.

Ok, let me try typing again... : )
Pilates is good for the core area and can really begin toning the stomach though it takes longer for that C-section pouch that I'm working on.
As for eating and loosing weight - The basics of what I am doing is having two glasses of water prior to lunch and prior to dinner. then add a side salad before you eat your main dinner course. I was thinking if you are used to veggie burgers with buns, skip the buns and add extra things to the burger such as marina and cheese, or mushrooms and cheese, or just do lettuce, tomato and pickle.

Good luck.

CoreyAnn, try to make sure that when you eat carbs, you balance out with some protein, either tofu or some soy. The protein will make you fuller for longer, and it helps balance out your blood sugars too.
I suggest a mommy exercise group (I was with stroller strides in San Diego, and they were great) where you can take the baby. My local Y has a couple of classes where baby is a mandatory accessory:)
Also, get out and hit the pavement with the stroller. When baby is around 6 months they will be able to sit in a baby jogger type stroller. Our baby jogger saved my life, it was the only way I got out of the house. Its larger wheels make for easy pushing, and it had a cushioned ride for the little one. It was an expense, but we used it until my daughter was over 4. It was the BEST investment:) While you are out walking, you can do some lunges, (you're gonna look silly, but who cares right?), stop and do a set of squats, walk some more and then stop and do some pushups. If there is a picnic bench, you can always do step ups. Our stroller strides group had the rubber resistance bands to help us too.
Make sure you are looking at what is in your diet. Soda, white bread, candy, and cut it out or down. Make sure you are eating enough food, and drinking enough water to flush all the bad stuff out... just little things that can make a difference:)

I have found that going low carb has been the best way for me to loose weight and I eat until I am full. I have also found a great product called solo slim. It is an all natual product and has had great results for many people that I know. You take one pill in the morning and that is it. I have found I drink allot of water and I am able to pass on much of the bad stuff that I used to want to eat. It has given me the will power that I need.

I have been doing these two things together and have lost 18 pounds in about a month. I still have a long ways to go but it is working.

3 months is a busy time,  I guess my best advice is that by 4mos, hopefully she will be more playful and distracting her will be the easiest way to get some time to eat on your time.  What I would do with my little girl at that stage was dish myself up first, then I have my portions figured out before i was frazzled by the tears (believe me, i would be FRaZZLED by the end...)  Hopefully it gets easier, tho I still have many moments where I could be working out but she gets up from her nap early, or wants to run run run while mommy is eating.

I am a mother of 3 children from 10 to 5 months. I just recently started the Wii Fit and I love it. I weight 217 and I want to get to 150. I've been that weight before and looked and felt great. I am allergic to wheat, corn, and many other things which makes weight loss hard. I eat many small meals a day and am just hoping for the best. I weighed 289 3 years ago and dropped to 220 before my 2nd marriage in November of 05. I was 219 when I got pregnant for my daughter ( I had 3 miscarriages that took a tole), and weighted 239 when I gave birth. I am hoping the wii fit will help me feel better all over. So far so good.

Hi Everyone!

I decided this was the year to lose the weight, get in shape and get my body back. I had a really hard year last year, and those plans fell by the wayside- but this year I decided I come first. It's been working out great, except when I forget and put myself on the back burner for some reason. I find that I have more energy and I've got a lot more to give emotionally when I give myself this time and attention.

I am a mother to 3 boys and a girl ages 13 to 3. My children and I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes hyperflexibility and loose joints. The stronger and more developed my muscles, the better they can support my joints. Also, any extra weight on my joints makes me much, much worse. I also have Fibromyalgia.

I did the GM diet to start, and a detoxing colon cleanse. I started using the Wii Fit and Yoga Booty Ballet. I'm also using Bliss' Fat Girl Slim cream, Fat Girl Sleep and Love Handler, to try to tone up my skin in my problem areas and help it pull up as fast as I lose the weight.

The GM (General Motors) diet really did nothing for me. The colon cleanse made my skin look much better, but no major difference there. I use the Wii Fit mostly to track my progress at this point, but occasionally for the exercises. I find Yoga Booty Ballet really works me out the best. The creams from Bliss Spa are from Sephora, and they do seem to be helping. I have also found a recipe for delicious muffins that work better than any colon cleanse/detox I have ever tried. They are making a huge difference.

I started at 179 at New Years. I'm currently 167. I wish it would come off faster, but at least it's coming off I guess.

I decided it was time to have some me time. I am a stay at home mom of three and had gained a lot of weight with the pregnancies. 80 pounds with the first, 20 with number 2, and only 16 with number 3. When my youngest was 2, it was time to focus on me. I wanted to not only lose the weight but feel healthy again and not so depressed about my body. So I went out and bought a $129.00 tredmill from K-Mart, and started that day. I could only do 15 mins. a day at first. I gradually added mins. to my daily routine and within 6 months I was up to 2 miles a day and have kept at it for the last 18 months. I know what you are saying, aren't you bored? No I have the tredmill in my living room, I can interact with the kids, watch my shows, listen to music, and see the world go by outside. I have also changed my eating habits. I eat 6 small meals a day. I have a salad with lunch and dinner everyday, and I bought little kids sectional plates. Big section veggies, med. sec. meat, small sec. pasta or ect. It really helps with portion control. I have lost a total of 100 pounds, from 260lbs. to 165. I went from a size 24 pant and 44 DD bra to a size 8 and 36C bra. You don't need a gym or expensive gym equip. all you need is a tredmill (And make sure you buy the extended warrenty, cuz if your little one spills on it, they replace it for free). Good Luck and try this out it works!

Liz--- I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Slimfast is loaded with a lot of sugar and fillers that are not necessary.  If you are looking for a meal supplementation, the best thing to do, is to get a protein isolate. A protein isolate has anywhere from 34-37 grams of protein, with very few carbs, very little fat and are quite tasty! I work out 6 days a week, and have 2 protein shakes a day to keep my energy high. BUT... For weight loss---- protein is great also. A lot of people think they need to buy expensive weight loss shakes, or slimfast, but really a protein shake is all that is needed! Any health foods store will have protein isolates. They range from 30-50 dollars. And lasts quite a while.. (you only need to use half a scoop---women dont need as much protein as men).

Just thought I would give you some other choices, if you are looking! Good luck Liz!

I have needed to lose weight for two years and this is the year that I am going to make it happen no matter what. I am stuck home unless I take my quad stroller for a spin, so my plan is to do a hour of exercise using work out dvd's. the diet is hard because i have a daycare so there are always crackers to eat, but when I go to the store i only buy enough for a week and just healthy food. This is hard but I know that everyday is a day closer to my goal. This group is a big help because if I don't feel like working out I log on read some threads and I feel ready to do it!
