I Have noticed how much more i think about what i am preparing foods with to lower the calorie count, not that I have a specific amount of calories per day...

Before, when I would moderate food, that was all, i didnt think about HOW i was preparing foods like now. Such as sour cream in mashed potatoes. I loved it, now I skip it, and yea, the potatoes arent as creamy, but they arent as fatty either, and I feel better about what they may do to my waistline! Or i love dressings on my salads, and cheese, before i would just toss a bunch on and now, i moderate it to a healthier level.

I have also taken a tip from this group and bought myself some portioned kids plates. IT WORKS!!! I am always satisfied with my meal, and I make sure my main dish is the veggies or fruits, and have a big glass of water on the side. Believe me, I didnt think I could ever eat off of those plates and be happy with it, but the scale doesn't lie!!!

Its still a learning experience for me, and still plenty of room here for improvement after years of cooking one way, then to make the change for my health and waistline.

I'm with you Sonya, I too notice that I am really watching what I eat more and how I fix meals. I buy the frozen veggies with no sauce and I watch how much salt I put in things for example. What I've really noticed is that I've changed what I buy from the grocery store. I am buying a lot more veggies and always look for the fat free items of those items lower in calories. I even begun to notice that I am craving the healthy foods now instead of junk. Before it was cravings for fast food, now it's cravings for an omelet, or for cottage cheese, or a turkey sandwich. I also enjoy getting the lower calorie pudding or ice cream bars. I am not drinking as much alcohol as I used to. There are so many changes that have become habit in my life now that I don't even think about them. People ask me all the time what I'm doing to loose the weight and truthfully I think it's just that I'm eating better/healthier than I did in the past. Well that and exercising. (but trust that I am not an exercise freak - I like the groups and they are only 45 minutes a day)
