Hello, I have two kids under two, and am married to an RCMP officer. I find that it is a wonderful job, but it definitely has it s frustrations for family life in general. My husband has been in the RCMP since we got married two years ago, and it has had its ups and downs. He was stationed in a small community and has been on call and standby constantly. He is called in on his days off and rarely gets a reprieve from the demands of covering such a large area. He works alone as there are not enough officers to double up, and therefor we both are somewhat concerned over his safety at a number of the calls (especially when backup is over an hour away at times). Needless to say, it is an adventure.

yes, he's been a member for just over a year and he loves his job and i love that he loves his job! we really enjoy this small town where everybody really does seem to know everybody else. the town spirit is great, especially at christmas time. i'm looking forward to putting up our tree and seeing all the decorations around town. that said, i love our days out in "the big city" to get our groceries and have a look around walmart and all that. we usually make it out at least once a month, sometimes twice and those are fun, long days. the highlight lately on our days out is stopping at the swimming pool for an hour to take kaity swimming. she just loves it! i can't wait for her to get a little bigger so we can do more fun family things!

I couldn't imagine being married and serperated for depot. My hubby and I were just engaged at that point and it was simply awful! Glad you guys made it through though. How long has he been in the force? Just a year now??? Mine has only been in for a little over two and he does love it, but there are some disadvantages of being in a small town. Overall, it is a great career though. Keep us updated as to how things go for you!

hi rebecca! my hubby is also rcmp, posted in a small community where he is often the only one on duty with backup 30 minutes away. it is quite the adventure dealing with shift work and all the crazy calls, but it's worth it to have him come home and tell me that he had a great day at work! we've been married for almost 4 years now and had to deal with the 6 months of living apart while he was away at depot. boy, was that ever the hardest time in my life! a week after his grad i was pregnant and now we have a beautiful 5 month old daughter. sometimes the big struggle in the day is just keeping her quiet so daddy can sleep to get ready for his next night shift. but anyway, i just joined this group and i'm looking forward to connecting with some people!
