My kids ask to watch a movie and most of the time I say, no, go to the playroom. TV makes my kids nuts in general. However when they do get to watch, I'd rather see something that's not a cartoon every time it is on. What are some good movies that are family friendly?

Cartoons can sometimes be great, don't get me wrong. But I don't want the only thing on my tv to be drawn on.

LOL. mason loves tangled and beauty and the beast. tangled is fave though. he sings " i have a dream"

yeah, gigi thinks the dragon in dragon heart is an actor, so he just pretended to die to tell a story. there is a dragonheart 2 where good drgon is alive.

[deleted account]

yeah he liked dragonheart at first but some of the parts stress him out, he worries about the dragon and we can only tell him the dragon will be okay to a point because eventually the dragon doesnt get up and then we have a real issue on our hands. ironically he gets anxious during shrek too, doesnt like shrek getting attacked all the time. his fav dragon movie is how to train your dragon because they make the dragon not scary but more like a puppy so cute. oh I loved rango, didnt pick up on a swearword in there ooops, aiden liked it the first time but didnt wanna watch it again... figures. Yet he's totally cool watching animal planet with sharks ripping apart some poor nemo looking fishy or the dino documentaries where you see dinosaurs ripping eachother apart, but oh no the puppies from bethoven are running away wah wah wah. He used to like the new batman movie too but just for the batmobile and music dont think he picked up on much else in that movie. Newest one we've seen was Rio he liked that one for the music but the rest of the movie he ignored.

If I had it my way we'd be watching disney princess movies but alas my other vote isn't old enough to say more than aguuuuuu lol

kaleigh, if he likes dragons did he see Dragonheart? Gigi's favorite dragon.

Kids just watched shanghai noon - they thought jackie chan was awesome. sometimes we watch movies and tell them there may be a bad word, don't repeat. I think Rango is hilarious but why does a kid's cartoon have to say "damn"?

Well as moms we are quick to jump on other moms fortheir flaws so it's always scary to admit a weakened :) i honestly hate hearing Eric whine and cry so I give in to tv too much. It's hard with the new baby, Eric is getting booted off my lap alot and so tv relaxes him when I have to be with the baby.

lol sorry tad paranoid, those are the things we get the most deffensive about though, the ones we know aren't where were at our best. thanks for being understanding laura :)

I won't! Trust me, we all have mom guilt over things, Eric watches age appropriate shows but waaayy too much!

[deleted account]

hes going on 4, not even going to defend myself here because i know he watches too much tv and has seen movies that arent age appropriate cant say much else than i do my best with limiting tv time and (okay heres my non defense) as for the more grownup movies i dont put anything on that would upset him and nothing he doesnt ask to watch (he sees a movie once and its logged in the brain under dragons, cars, etc.)

urgh mom guilt, got it you dont need to call me a bad mom i know my flaws

Yeah bad mom award here, aiden watches too much tv and too old for him movies and video games. His favourite movies that aren't cartoons (he loooooves cartoons so mostly he watches cars, finding nemo, mars needs moms, movies like that and shows like sid the science kid, backyardigans, mighty machines, wonderpets, pink panther, dora the explorer, seasame street, dinosaur train, etc.) are things like pirates of the carribean, star wars, a knights tale, transformers, land of the lost, pinapple express (I know I know), fast and the furious, etc. he also loves the beginning and end of how i met your mother, he likes family guy which is a grown up cartoon, I know stupid. also he likes watching nick play halo (alien game), red dead redemption (a cowboy game), etc. and he absolutely loves documentaries on animals like their ocean creature ones and their dinosaur ones, birds, etc.

I secretly like Arthur. The aardvark I mean. I could watch it all day even though I am not a child.

Yeah grease wouldn't be one I'd let kids watch.
Do you do Disney movies? We dont much but there's a few I allow.

I probably shouldn't let them watch it, but my kids love Mamma Mia! I grew up watching Pirates of Penzance, old westerns, hello dolly - lots of musicals.

I wonder if I can buy those cheap? My son does love 'football' - Facing the Giants. I've never heard of donut man movies. Last night we watched Houseboat with Sofia Loren and Carey Grant.

Someone told me to let them watch Grease. I don't know. Lots of sexual stuff in there. Too much for my liking. Well, I mean I personally love Grease, but not for kids. I know i didn't catch all that stuff when i was younger, but....don't grow up yet kiddos!!

I HATE cartoons. We let Logan watch all the things we do with the exception of like horror movies and stuff and things with lots of sex and swearing.

I'm very strict about the type of tv I let Eric watch so his shows are quite limited, but most the ones I let him watch are animated, and on cable :( mostly I just don't let him watch anything with good vs bad. No violence, even mildly.
It is animated, but 'magic school bus' is very educational and fun!

Idk if you are a Christian family, but if you ate you might like 'the donut man' movies. They are for kids, upbeat and have songs.
How old are your kids? Do you have cable?
