I am 4.5 months pregnant and nursing. My son has allergies to Wheat, Corn, Soy, and Dairy (that we know of). I am not able to eat anything with these ingredients or he is in terrible pain and I know I am not getting enough calories for the new baby and for nursing on my limited diet. He is below the 5th percentile for his weight and his height is in the 25th. A friend of mine told me about Elecare. My son is 13 months old.

Hi!My daughter Kennedy has been on Elecare since she was 2 months they diagonsed her with MSPI which is milk, soy protien intollerance. Before she was on Elecare she was always cranky or crying but ever since we switched its been working great shes almost been on it 7 months now. Before Elecare she was on Nutramigen and her Dr is going to try and switch her back to that here at her 9 month check up in August, since Elecare is so expensive she goes thru about 1000.00 worth a month now!She also has acid reflux really bad so shes on medicine for that too!

My dd was diagnosed with a cows milk protein allergy at the age of 4 weeks and has had Elecare but it didn't work for her as she has multiple allergies so the specialist at the hospital prescribed her Neocate which is for children with this type of allergy and several others she also has a digestive problem which means she cannot digest food properly which saw her loosing weight and lacking in growth, unfortunately she also has reflux which she is medicated with Zantac, to date she is now 8 months old still is not tolerating any foods and her sole source of food is Neocate which she is thriving on her weight is ok and she seems happy, we find out on the 31st of August what is going on with her they say she may require key hole surgery but yeah we don't know all we know at this point is she is allergic to all foods we give her. well i hope this helps anyway.

i was nursing my son and had to stop eating everything he was allergic to- soy, wheat, milk, eggs, nuts and tree nuts. his eczema cleared up once i strated this "diet' but i wasnt getting enough nutrients as i am a vegetarian. to make a long battle with eczema nad allergic reactions short my sons allergist recommended elecare. it took a good month to wean him from breast milk to this formula but he drinks it now. i was frantic tring to get him to drink it at first and it was a struggle making the switch but if you switch one feeding at a time for a week then about a month later your son should should be ok. my son is also off the charts in weight but every visit he gains a little more so the docs arent concerned. my son was 10 months when i stopped nursing. i miss it and wish it didnt end this way. but you definately should try the elecare since your pregnant. my insurance covers it in full and that was another fiasco so dont give up! good luck.

My son is on EleCare. I nursed him until he was 11 months. I supplimented with EleCare. He is allergic to milk, soy, peanut, peas, pork and tree nut. I would have nursed him longer but he is so sensitive I couldn't eat anything with his allergens in it and I was losing too much weight. My doctor told me if I lost another 2 lbs I would be burning muscle. I also learned that since he can't have milk he needs to be on the formula, not rice milk, until he is 2. He does very well on the EleCare. It is very pricey, but he is thriving on it. He will be 1 at the end of this month and is in the 60% for weight and above the 97% for height.

Have you attempted to use goat milk?  My son is dairy allergic and when he was a babe (one) we used goat milk with a small amount of 100% maple syrup.  He loved it!!  We also still use goat cheese or yogurt.  For your calorie intake it may be helpful to use dinner type food for all meals of the day.  This was helpful for me when I was nursing.  I still have the same four allergies (plus a few more) and have no trouble with calories  ;)  I cook large batches of food when I cook so that the food is already prepared, easy to warm, safe for my body and can be as lean or calorie-ful as needed.  Otherwise, I have trouble finding things to eat or eat things I shouldn't; I don't have the energy to always prepare the food that is 'okay' for me.  This technique has made my diet sooo much easier.  If we are going to someone's house, I just grab my food from the freezer and don't worry about what I might eat when I go somewhere.  The very best of luck to you.

Sorry, one more point :), my son is also 13 months. We give him mostly rice milk to drink. We just really try to push foods with fat and protein, like ground beef, avocados, chicken, olives, etc. We then mix a couple scoops of Elecare in with his rice milk each day, to give him some extra fat and protein, especially on the days he doesn't feel like eating too much. I would bet your son could have some rice milk for his calcium and liquid needs...you'll just really have to watch his diet to ensure his nutrients, calories, fat, and protein needs get met.

My baby is on Elecare. I also have a friend who's baby is allergic to dairy, soy, and corn. My baby is alergic to dairy, soy, eggs, peanuts, and oats. Elecare works well for him. However, the number 1 ingredient in Elecare is corn. My friend's baby did not do well on Elecare b/c of the corn. Her baby did the nutrimigan (spelling?). It has really broken down dairy proteins, that her baby can still handle. I would talk to a dietician and take a good look at the ingredients on those formulas. They are extremely expensive, though. I can imagine that it really sucks trying to find food to give you enough calories and nutrients while breastfeeding, but I'd sit down and weigh everything out before you stop. I stopped nursing at 9 months and I was very thankful that my son didn't require too much formula after a month or two b/c he was eating table foods, mainly b/c each can of Elecare is $36 at my pharmacy...and he'd go through a can every 2 days when he was on full feed.

Anyways...hopefully I gave you some helpful info:) Good luck!!
