Hi! My friend Jeri recommended your group...my son is 2 - and allergic to eggs and milk since he was a baby. I am always in search for foods and recipes. He is the only one allergic to these foods in my family, so it is a challenge to make balanced meals for him.

My sons milk allergy was specific to cow's milk, so I was able to use goats milk. All cases are different so I would ask your pediatrician.

Can goat's milk be used instead? Or only soy?

Quoting Tina:

My youngest is allergic to eggs, milk, peanuts, and oat.  I have also been learning a lot about substitutes for egg and milk.  I use unsweetened applesauce often in place of an egg in a baking recipe (1/4 c.=1 egg).

I have a question about the soy yogurt.  I have checked the ingredients in stores and can't seem to find one that doesn't include some sort of milk product in addition to the soy.

Hi!  I buy Silk and Soy and Company yogurt, neither contain milk products.  My sons eat it and have never had any reactions and their milk allergy is pretty severe.

Hi! My younger son has milk and egg allergies, and my older son is still allergic to dairy. My favorite cook book is: What's to Eat? The Milk-Free, Egg-Free, Nut-Free Food Allergy Cookbook by Linda Marienhoff Coss. I have tried many of the recipes and they are very good, especially the pancakes. You can make a batch of pancakes and freeze them so you have them for a while. Have your joine FAAN? They send great recipes in their newsletters! Hope this helps!

Hello! I'm still new at this, but my friend suggested that I look for "holistic" type recipe books.  Not sure if that is something you might want to look into. Good luck!

Hi! We have to avoid eggs, dairy and nuts. There is a great cookbook you can order online called "Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Kid pleasing Recipes and Tips" by Theresa Kingma. She is a mom who has some of the best recipes and they are not hard. Once you understand what the egg does in a recipe you have different options. For example if the egg creates moisture, like in a cake, you can substitute one ripe banana for each egg in the recipe. Just mash them up and add a splash of soy milk. Most of the time you can't even tast the banana in it. A box cake mix that is labeled safe for you can be mixed with just a can of diet soda in place of both the eggs and the oil. Clear soda for yellow mixes and cola for chocolate ones. Also if a recipe uses eggs to help make it light or rise like pancakes or waffles a mixture of 1 1/2 Tbl. water, 1 1/2 Tbl. oil and 1 tsp. of baking powder mixed together and added to the other ingredients will make a great pancake! This cookbook even has an awesome chocolate chip cookie recipe as well as other baked goods you never knew you could make without eggs or dairy. Last thing. I have found that Earth Balance buttery spread is the best tasting and best baking butter. It is completely dairy free but it melts like real butter and doesn't separate into water. This cook book is the best. I have actually had people ask me for my cookie and cake recipes when I have taken them to church potlucks and such, and people never realize that they are an allergy safe recipe. Hope this helps!

O.K.  The Mr. Breakfast website has some great recipes that you can substitue soy milk and soy yogurt into.  One of our favorites is the Best waffles recipe.  Don't know if you have a waffle maker.  We don't have the milk allergy, so I haven't used soy, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.  Someone on there stated that yogurt is a great substitute for eggs in baked goods.  You can find muffin mixes in the grocery store that haven't been near certain allergens or contain them.  Use yogurt instead of eggs.  Works wonderfully!  The waffles can also be frozen for a quick breakfast, and they are very tasty.  you can make pancakes with thawed bluberries, soy milk and soy yogurt also.  Finding out that yogurt was a good substitute in baked goods was worth a pound of gold to me!:)  Now I can make cookie bars w/ yogurt and they are yummy.  They crumble a little more than usual, but seem to stay moist.  Of course I have to make everything from scratch, but  I make a lot at one time and freeze stuff.  I hope this helps.  A good quick dinner is chicken breasts, broccoli, chicken stock, and brown rice.  I usually buy frozen broccoli.  Mix a can of stock w/ 1/2 bag frozen broccoli and 1/2 cup brown rice.  put chicken breast on top.  Cover with foil and bake in a 350 oven for about an hour (just until chicken is done).  Also works with stove top and a can of mixed veggies (just add the can of broth and chicken).  Hope this helps.

Hi Danith!  My daughter has an egg allergy.  Do they make soy yogurt?  If so, I have some recipes for waffles and pancakes.  Hope this helps.:)
