Hello, I have now a 2 month old and she has started this prescription formula called Elecare and I am having a very hard time getting her to eat it. I have tried everything from mixing it with the Alimentum, adding a drop of vanilla extract, hershey's syrup (1 tsp to 4 oz) and now she seems to like the hershey's Strawberry (1 tsp to 4 oz) like the nutritionist had suggested but still she is eating very little. Any suggestions if your child has been on this or is on this. I am just worried because she hasn't put on much weight since birth and she finely put on a pound in one week (this past week) and I am afraid she is going to go back down if she doesn't keep her intake of formula. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or tips.

This is for all who read from this post: Sometimes the regular pediatricians are very unaware of Eosinophil Diseases caused from food allergies. If you experience growth & development 'slowness' as time goes on, you may wish to consider getting wtih a Pediatric Gastrointestinal group. Our son was not diagnosed until 3 years. I thank you for your response, but I actually ended up stopping the formula because I tried everything with her and she hated it and whatever she did drink she would throw it up. I saw that they had the vanilla flavor and I asked about it but they don't want her on that until she is year. I have stopped went back to normal Similac Advance and she has actually been doing well. I took her off the EleCare and her Zantac and she is actually doing better so I will see what they say at her follow up. Thanks again.

My son didn't really like the Elecare at first either. It does have a really strong smell/flavor. I actually tasted it one time and it tasted like throw up to me :0 However, he was on soy, so I slowly mixed them together for the first week or so. 3/4 soy, 1/4 elecare for a day or two until he was taking it pretty good. Then 1/2 and 1/2. Then mostly Elecare until he was completely on it. I don't know if that's an option for you, but that's how it worked for my son. They do make Vanilla Elecare, if that is an option for you. I don't know if its more expensive or not, but I'd think it'd have a little better flavor. However, I would imagine that your daughter will eventually get used to the taste.
