My 21 month old son was just recently diagnosed with food intolerences or sensitivities. He does not have allergies. We had to eliminate soy, milk, wheat and eggs from his diet. He also has a problem with lentils and sunflower and sesame seeds. This has been very difficult because I have never cooked much and don't really have the time to. Soy is in all frozen prepared foods as well as most canned and jarred foods. There is no substitute for mayonaise and the rice bread we give our son we call brick bread because it's so dense. I'm also concerned about his second birthday party as far as what to serve especially for a cake. I also feel really bad because when the other children at daycare have birthday parties with pizza, icecream, cake and cookies my son will have to just sit there with his special allergen free cookies or a fruit cup. I would appreciate any suggestions how to deal with these sensitivities. I would also like to know if your children had these intolerences how long did it take them to outgrow them? My doctor says it usually takes about a year but I am very impatient and I would like to know if he is on target. Thanks in advance. Karen

Both my kids also have intolerences not allergies to wheat, milk, and eggs. I find mayonaise isnt a problem because it's the egg white that affects them not the yolk. For my daughters 3rd birthday I made a princess castle out of rice crispie squares covered with fondent. My kids have not yet grown out of their intolerences but I am told usually by 5, my fingers are crossed because it is a pain.

I bought my son a Betty Crocker Gluten Free cake mix and used applesauce and extra oil instead of eggs and for the frosting I used butter flavor crisco mixed with powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Then I make extra for keeping on hand to serve at other parties. They also have cookie and brownie mixes that you can do this with too. My son has anaphalactic allergies to wheat, eggs, milk and peanuts.

My daughter has an illness called coeliacs disease shes intolerant to wheat, rye, barley and gluten so it was very awkward at 1st for shopping as gluten and wheat is in just about every product we bought but now were finding it ok. Have you looked in the free from isles in the super market they have a few good things. weve found asda and tesco have the best freefrom products and most, even though its not alot. We have to buy her free from wheat flour to bake cakes, and we also buy free from wheat pizza bases, not sure if this helps or not but its worth a look
