Has anyone ever reacted to "free" detergents???

I have read a lot here about using detergents that are "free" (like Arm and Hammer, or Purex, etc) but I have a question:

My daughter and I (I also have bad allergies) cannot use Purex Free and Clear. I itch so severely from it and found out recently my step-father also itches from it. So, you can imagine what happened to my 14 year old when I tried it last time-she itched as well and her panties..WOW..needless to say she was super uncomfortable and I had to rewash the entire load in my usual detergent a couple times afterwards. Has anyone else had this problem??

Amazingly, I use Gain Original Fresh detergent without a problem. Between not itching and just a clean smell, it is a Godsend. I cannot use other Gain scents because I can't breathe around them to even try them, plus cannot use the Original Fresh fabric softener because it is too perfumed for me to be around.

Do you have pictures of the rash it caused? We just switched to Purex Free and Clear and my son now has a rash on front and back...on upper arms as well...not legs or lower arms

id love to try something indeed. i have the same problems, ive tried all liquid, all powder, the free and clear kind, ive tried with fabric softener, without it, the dryer bar, dryer sheets, those round spikey balls. and its just SKIN CRAWLING. its not fun to try to sleep and your PJ's make you feel like you're bunking with a colony of amnesiac ants -_-

See if you can get Eco Balls (google them), they look like flying saucers and go in the wash instead of detergent, we find they are great and have had no reactions with them.

I wonder if it has "active enzymes" in it....we tried Mrs. Meyers all natural laundry detergent, but dd actually had an awful itchy painful rash from it :( So we have to be really careful...(we use all free and clear - but I haven't tried normal detergent in years except for the enzyme incident)....Ok, I looked it up, Arm & Hammer "FabricCare" does have enzymes....and Purex free and clear has brighteners...you should check out this page...

My daughter has such sensative skin (and eczema) and can ONLY have her clothes washed in Tide Sensative! Nothing else and it HAS to be liquid form! My mom has to wash her clothes because we use the laundromat or my FIL's for our stuff and my daughter will react if ANYTHING else has ever been used in that washer or dryer!

I shop with a great company that has great all-natural products that work better than name brand! I am very sensitive to many soaps and detergents and i love this stuff! Post back for more info.

FYI Gain laundry detergent has a chemical called corrosive in it that can burn eyes and skin. and another called sodium bisulfate that can cause respiratory irritation!!! I use a product called shaklee ( made all natural) if your interested look up www.shaklee.com
