I've been having a hard time keeping a varied diet for my 13 month old daughter who is anaphylactic to all those things. Any ideas for easy lunches? She only has 2 teeth so still has a hard time with raw vegetables, she's getting sick of heinz baby food with a cheerios chaser!

Hi, I have a 2 yr old son who is anaphylactic to dairy, egg, peanut. He also has alot of other mild food allergies/sensitivities, so we are again going cautiously with other things. We found out when he was 9 months old. A dietician told me that because of the lack of dairy, he needs to eat meat and veges at least twice a day to replace the protein that he wasn't getting from dairy. We live in Australia, in a place where not much is available for kids/people with allergies. Anyway, I have found this company to have some quite good products....http://www.orgran.com/, as well as recipes etc. It is more orientated to gluten free, but nearly all their products are egg, nut, dairy, soy, and meat free (they generally advertise suitable for vegans). The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia are doing a lot of research on allergies and intolerances, and have put out this great recipe book, it can be ordered online...http://www.sswahs.nsw.gov.au/rpa/allergy... Although it is more designed for adults, you can make the recipes and mash them up, or make them with say chicken mince instead of chicken pieces etc. The index is also in allergy categories, ie gives a listing for all the recipes that are egg, dairy, nut free. It also has recipes for making your own stock etc, for use in soups, casseroles, or risottos.
I have a great recipe for a chocolate fudge cake that is free of all these things, as long as you can get either cocoa or carob that is dairy free...

1.5 cups SR flour
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 teaspoon imitation vanilla essence
1 tablespoon white vinegar
0.5 cup vegetable oil
put all dry ingredients into bowl first, then all wet ingredients. Mix with a whisk until smooth. Put in greased 20cm fluted ring tin (bundt tin). Cook in moderate (180 deg C or 350 deg F) oven for 35 - 40 mins.
Icing is 1 cup icing sugar, 1.5 tablespoons cocoa, 1 tablespoon dairy free margarine, a little hot water, mix and pour over cake.
I've found it a great cake mix for making all sorts of birthday cakes in various shapes and sizes, using 2, 3 or 4 times the mixture. Just has to be cooked a little longer if its in a square or rectangle tin. Have made trains, police cars, and cruise ship cakes out of it...I have 3 boys!!!

Hope this helps,

cheers, Dinny

Hi. My 3 yr old son is allergic to egg/milk/cheese. Here are some products I have found after reading a lot fo food labels - Tyson's brand frozen, breaded chicken nuggets. Not made with milk/egg, or processed in a plant with milk/egg. They come in dinosaur shapes for fun. I live near many Wegman's grocery stores and buy a lot of their brand name food as everything is marked lactose free/etc. He loves pasta, so I buy Wegman's brand tomato/basil sauce and spaghetti. Soft enough for her to eat! Read pasta labels carefully - many contain egg. Wegman's is the only brand I found that does not contain egg. Potatoes (especially sweet potatoes) were one of his favorites as he teeth continued to come in. Nice and soft. Also good. Frozen peas, corn and carrots are soft (takes a long time to cook the fresh ones). Make some jasmine or sticky rice. Yummy! Just a few of my ideas.
