I am the mother of 2 boys who have food allergies. My 9 year old is allergic to peanuts, dogs, cats, trees and has severe eczema. My youngest who is 4 is allergic to all egg products, dogs, cats, and as severe eczema. The peanut I am getting used to but the egg is becoming more and more difficult to find good edible recipes. Could someone help or relate?

Absolutely. My almost 2 year old is allergic to both nuts (all) and egg! It's tough at first, but once you start to get the hang of looking for brands that are egg free, it gets much easier. Check out www.rfak.org (raising food allergic kids) - there are so many of us out there!

My almost 3-year-old son is severely allergic to visable eggs as well as almost everything that is alive!  He is also sensitive to beef and artficial sweeteners.  I really don't like medicating him because it seems to make him "angry".  New allergies keep appearing, although he's been tested 3 times already.  The latest...we had to stay in a hotel during the ice storm and his face broke out with hives.  First question was whaqt has he eaten, but it seems like it was just caused by him laying on the bedspread.  As soon as I washed his hands and face and gave him the OK dose of benedryl, he was better.  Laid him on our blanket from then on.  Yet another thing to have to watch out for...

I feel like I am being the crazy mom, I can't just leave my child without telling his story and educating people on the warning signs and how to use an Epi-Pen.  I have heard that kids can grow out of allergies, but how do you know?  He touched raw egg one time when they were making cookies at daycare and I never want to see my son look like that again.  I don't want to "sit" on him, but how can I avoid it?

Thanks for listeneing!

Have you heard of Ener-G egg replacer?? It works really well! :) I have a 4 year old daughter severely allergic to eggs, and all dairy! She also is really allergic to dogs, cats, feathers, grass, most trees, dust mites, raw tomoatos, alvacado, wallnuts and pecans, so we are supposed to stay away from all nuts! It is so hard to find good baked goods! But that ener-g egg replacer is so great! I made some super good cookies, banana bread, pumpkin bread, a ton of stuff with it and it works awesome! I hope that helps! If you look it up you can find it on-line and it is pretty good priced the box lasts a long time!!

My 17-month-old is severely allergic to eggs, peanuts, and cinnamon.  I've found it hard to find egg-free recipes as well, but I did find some egg substitutions on the following website that have come in very handy!

http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/eggs.ht...

It's worked really well for pancakes.  When making meatloaf, it all comes out tasting the same, but the meatloaf shrinks up about 1/2 an inch all around (I was shocked the first time!).  I've mostly used the substitute with the baking powder, water, and oil, since I don't want the flavor of applesauce in cooked items, but it does work well in baked goods.  The nice thing about the website is that there are several different combonations so you can try them out and see which works best for what recipe.  I have them posted on my fridge.  I also have all family and friends constantly on the lookout for ANY recipes that are egg/peanut/cinnamon free.

I CAN relate! My oldest is 6 1/2 and allergic to egg, peanut, treenut, many seasonal, latex, other foods... My son is 4 and allergic to milk and soy milk (also avoiding peanut, treenut, shellfish and egg.) Soooo, recipes can be a nighmare! We found in many recipes, you can supplement a 4 oz serving of applesauce for every egg in a recipe. But if the recipe requires 3 or more eggs, it does not work so well. Also, if you have never heard this before, you will think I am nuts. (No pun intended!) : If you are making cake/cupcakes and using a box mix, you can add almost a full can of soda, and leave the rest of the ingredients out. For example, if the Betty Crocker mix says add 2 eggs and 2 TSP of oil, just mix the powder with the soda. Any kind will do: Sprite, Diet, Root beer we found added yummy flavor. Good luck!
