My 4 year old is allergic to the sun. We are woking on a diagnosis, but are looking mainly at any one of the following condidtions: Solar Urticaria, Polymorphic Light Eruption, and Porphyria. Is there anyone else out there with this?

that seems so familer. my 3 year old every time he gets out in the sun, he popz out in hives and blood red cheeks

My son is allergic to the sun's reaction to chemical sunscreens. At first, we thought it may be a sun reaction but soon realized that when we skipped the sun screen, there was no reaction. Now we have discovered that there are non-chemical sun blocks that work great. Not sure if this is relevant to your situation at all but maybe it is another option to consider. Our allergist said that this can be a common reaction for children and is not limited to sunscreen; it could also include any lotions, skin or hair products.

Hello ...My daughter has solar urticaria and the cold also causes her great pain ....Well well I have never spoken to anyone else who has a child like this .
My daughter started at 4 she ate some jelly sweets and came out in spots perfectly round and all over her. at 9 she swelled up all over and instead of the panic we all watched as she got bigger and bigger ...when the doctor saw her he said urticaria and gave her piriton adult dose. We then had her tested for other problem foods ect!! and NOTHING came up BUT if she eats tomatoes nuts kiwi,orange, and other foods she swells
Then about 6 years ago she showed signs of the sun and cold swelling her skin. She now wear clothes to cover herself and carrys tablets to help ....
Take care and if you need any help just shout ..get your GP to get you to the allergy clinic just to check
