I just joined. I found out yesterday that my 4 month old has lice. She is black and white. I am a black woman and have never dealt with this. I have other mixed children but their hair is thicker and curlier versus my baby whos hair is straight. I am so upset and shocked

Also, it's not about how dirty a person's hair is, it's scientifically proven that it has to do with the shape of the hair follicles.

I've been around kids with lice and have never gotten them. I know you can get them, but a lot of factors go into it so be just as careful as anyone else. I had a friend who had them so bad her hair was falling out and i didn't catch them hugging her. My little sister's friend slept over with them and neither of us caught them and she is white (my sis).

Hello Moms... A friend from the east coast told me about this great line of kid's hair care stuff that is actually for lice prevention. I looked up their site, www.zippitydoos.com, and saw tha it was available at Dahl's of all places. I never knew you could prevent lice, but this company says their line is pediatrician approved, laboratory tested, and paraben and sulfate-free. I picked up some yesterday and will use the shampoo and conditioner tonight at bath time. Smells pretty good and my daughter loved the bottle and the pretty colors. They have a whole line and my friend, a mom of 3, swears by it. Good luck!

I never knew the reason why and I am a black female with bi-racial children, but I've never known any black or bi-racial kids to ever get lice even when all the other races at my kids school had it going around. The doctor told me something about why usually black children don't get lice but....sorry, I forgot why! But its only if your child is mixed with black....if you mix with like white/hispanic or something like that, its easy to get.

I would just like to say thank you for posting this!!!! I know this sounds funny but I felt like such a horrible mother cause my 2 year ole got lice! It's just nice to know that there are others out there! lol Sorry I know it sounds lame but thanks!

Yeah this is sooo not true!!! My daughter is bi-racial and she had it! It was horrible to get ride of because for one she is very young and two the texture of her hair! But the best prevention is to try and keep it oiled and if you have a girl I would try and do a lot of 'up dos' for school just for extra precaution!!

My hair dresser told me that I should put their daddy's grease,oil etc in their hair when lice is going around at their preschool. LICE ONLY ATTACHES TO CLEAN HAIR!!

biracial children can get lice. However, lice cannot stick to grease or oil. Hairspray helps too. Putting hair up or cutting it short helps avoid exposure to lice.

While it is true it's rare for a african american child to get it, interacial children do. The quality of the hair is similar to that of non black races where the hair is a playground for lice.

Biracial children do get lice. Frizzy curly hair that a lot of them have start out straight for a couple centimeters then starts to curl. Both my children had lice. I have my son's hair cut off to control it, and my daughter has had it more than once.

No its not true, both my sons got lice. I covered their hair in mayo and it killed them, then I just combed them out. And the mayo made their hair soft for weeks lol

I've heard tea tree oil will prevent it if they don't have it already. I bought some oil and put several drops in a spray bottle and filled the rest of the way with water. Spritz on hair every morning before school. So far it's worked for me.

they can get it. i had a friend whose daughter had it. you just have to keep there hair from getting too dry

Just make sure you keep their hair and scalp oiled well and you shouldn't have any problems.

Lice like clean hair, perferably. So adding products like oil, hairspray or similar products will help. They have a hard time cementing the eggs to "dirty hair". If it is for a boy keeping it short also helps.

no it's not true if thechildren's hair is dry!!! try to keep it olied or greased (alil more than normal)
